Edward Rivera Obituary
Published by Legacy on Oct. 1, 2025.
We honor and celebrate the life of Edward Earl "Eddie" Rivera, Jr., who graced this world for 36 meaningful years. Eddie was a beloved son, grandson, brother, uncle, cousin, and friend, whose spirit touched the lives of many.
Born on November 9, 1988, at Nyack Hospital, Eddie was the beloved son of Edward and Sheila Rivera. He grew up in Rockland County, New York, where he attended East Ramapo Central District Public Schools and graduated from Spring Valley High School in 2006. His love for football began in Pop Warner and continued through high school, where he played quarterback with dedication and skill.
After beginning his educational journey at Hudson Valley Community College in Troy, NY, Eddie found his passion in physical training-a field where he made a lasting impact. For over a decade, Eddie dedicated himself to helping others achieve their fitness goals, beginning his career locally before expanding to New York City as a private trainer. His forward-thinking approach led him to virtual training in recent years, building a loyal client base that became genuine friendships. Eddie's influence was both professional and personal, as one longtime client shared: "He was a fixture in my life for over 10 years. I'll think of him every Tuesday and Thursday at 5:30 a.m. forever."
Eddie's warmth and kindness shone through in all aspects of his life. Though private and reserved, he had an extraordinary ability to make people feel truly seen and heard. He had a gentle spirit and a deep empathy for others, always offering a listening ear and a caring heart.
Family meant everything to Eddie. He often spoke with deep pride and affection about his big sister, Marlena, and his beloved niece, Nirvana-whom he lovingly called "Twin." Hardly a day passed without a conversation with his big brother, Da-ron, reflecting the closeness they shared. Eddie was protective of all his siblings.
Eddie loved fall-its colors, energy, and especially its sports. His favorites were the Duke Blue Devils basketball and New York Giants football teams. He also had a soft spot for dogs and was known to light up around them. If you knew Eddie, you know that he had a serious love for pickles-preferably the ones sold at street fairs, which he never passed up. These simple joys showed how easily he found happiness in everyday moments.
His quiet perseverance, his loyalty, and his kind heart will remain with us always, even as we mourn his loss.
Eddie's passing leaves a void in the hearts of all who knew him. His legacy will live on in the lives he touched through his work, his friendships, and the unconditional love he gave to those closest to him. He will be deeply missed but never forgotten.
Eddie was predeceased by his father, Edward Earl. He is survived by his grandmother, Nettie Hill; his grandparents, Sixto and E. Diane Rivera; his mother, Sheila Lindsey, and stepfather, Larry Lindsey; and his stepmother, Aisha Strothers-Rivera
He is also survived by his siblings: Da-Ron Whatley, Marlena Rivera, Aisha Rivera, Roman Rivera, and Zia Rivera; his cousin-brother, Christopher Hill; and his nieces, Nirvana Belfort and Ashanti Whatley.
