Edward Sehy Obituary

Edward L. Sehy, of Scotts, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather, passed away on November 29, 2025, at the age of 83. Ed was born on July 18, 1942, in Vicksburg, MI. He was the son of Leonard and Esther (Commissaris) Sehy. He graduated from Vicksburg High School with the Class of 1960. He then served honorably in the United States Army. Ed worked for Lee Paper Mill before and after his military service before working for General Motors. He worked at General Motors for over 30 years, contributing to the success of the company and supporting his family.

Ed's life was marked by his enduring love for his wife, Susan D. (Hitzeman) Sehy, whom he married on August 20, 1966, in the old St. Edward's Catholic Church in Vicksburg. Their marriage of 59 years was a testament to their deep bond and partnership. They met through the introduction of Ed's sister, Margaret, and together they created a lifetime of memories. Ed took pride in being a devoted husband, and he cherished every moment spent with his family.

Together, Ed and Sue traveled across the country, with cherished memories of their trips to the Smokey Mountains and the Outer Banks of North Carolina. Ed possessed a strong-willed and generous spirit, often sharing these adventures with their children, taking each of them on motorcycle trips that fostered unforgettable memories. Ed enjoyed spontaneous road trips anywhere and everywhere. He was a member of St. Martin of Tours Catholic Church. Ed was also a member of the Knights of Columbus and a member of the Climax American Legion Post 465.

Ed was known for his kindness and honesty. A beloved storyteller who could engage anyone with his tales from the past. He enjoyed working on his Farmall tractor and found joy tending to his garden. He delighted his family with his renowned sloppy joes, which they fondly claimed were the best. Hunting was another way for him to go enjoy the outdoors. Ed loved to read and watch westerns.

He was immensely proud of his children and grandchildren, rarely missing an event in their lives. Ed's legacy lives on through their love and the memories he created with each of them. His presence will be deeply missed but forever remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him.

He is preceded in death by his parents: Leonard and Esther Sehy; daughter: Rebecca; and three siblings: Paul Sehy, Christine Sehy, and Andrew Sehy.

Ed is survived by his wife of 59 years, Sue; four children: Randy (Lucinda) Sehy, of IN; Amy (Steve) Carlton, of Portage; Dale (Amy) Sehy, of Scotts; and Melissa Lafler, of Vicksburg; 14 grandchildren: Carson Sehy, Kasey Tassell, Morgan Tassell, Caden Carlton, Austin (Jenna) Sehy, Trae Sehy, Levi (Olivia) Sehy, Emma Sehy, D.J Sehy, Autumn Sehy, Michael Vandenbosch, Haley Lafler, Abbey (Collin) Eager, Paige Lafler; and four great grandchildren: Chase, Cash, Willow, and River.

Ed is also survived by his 13 siblings: Bill Sehy, of Schoolcraft; Mary (Bruce) Bowersox, of AL; Eleanor (Bruce) Firlik, of Wayland; Marie (Dave) Hartman, of AZ; Margaret Cesar, of AL; Frances Goble, of VA; Anna Cagney, of FL; Joan (Mike) Kowalski, of Rudyard; Henry (Anne) Sehy, of Vicksburg; Helen (Dave) Kidder, of Plainwell; Pat (Jim) Hathaway, of Holland; Tom (Theresa) Sehy, of Sturgis; and Kathy Johnson, of OH.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, December 6th, 2025, at 11am, at St. Martin of Tours Catholic Church. Monsignor Thomas Martin will be officiating. A visitation will be held at the funeral home on Friday from 5 to 7pm, with a rosary beginning at 6:30pm. There will also be a visitation at the church one hour prior to the service.
