Edward Siedlik Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Beck's Tribute Center on Sep. 8, 2024.
Edward Anton Siedlik, loving father and devoted husband, passed away on September 3rd, 2024, at age 78. Known for his strong personality and occasional stubbornness, Ed wielded his strength until the very end, fighting courageously to live for months through several severe health challenges. Despite the difficulties he faced during that time, he considered himself blessed to be able to spend quality time with his family and friends. Ed will forever be in the hearts and memories of his loved ones, who now miss him dearly.
Ed was born on August 31st, 1946, in Omaha, Nebraska, to Edward and Lillian (Schuch) Siedlik. He graduated from Mount Michael Abbey and Seminary (Elkhorn, NE) in 1965, and served in the United States Navy from 1968 to 1973, primarily on the USS Sacramento (AOE1). His early years reflect key values that remained central to him throughout his life: his family, service to others, love for his country, and his faith.
While in the Navy, Ed met and married Elizabeth (Betsy) Brodsack, and the two settled in western Washington upon the completion of his military service. At that time, Ed joined the Associated Catholic Cemetries in the Catholic Archdiocese of Seattle, for whom he worked for 40 years until his retirement as the Grounds Foreman of Calvary Cemetery (Seattle) in 2013. His work combined his love of the outdoors with his faith, while also enabling him to serve, support, and connect with others in their times of grief. Over the course of his career, Ed spent significant time working at Calvary Cemetery (Seattle), Holyrood Cemetery (Shoreline), Gethsemane Cemetery (Federal Way), and St. Patrick Cemetery (Kent), as well as at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery (Omaha, NE).
Ed had a deep love for his family, nature, history, and helping others. Whenever he could, he enjoyed fly fishing, hiking, camping, taking road trips, watching UW football games, caring for his property, and spending time with loved ones and friends. Outside of work, Ed spent more than a decade as a Master Gardener (WSU / King County) and a Master Recycler Composter (WSU / Snohomish County). He also volunteered with the Community Emergency Response Team (Marysville), at the Western Heritage Center (Monroe), and at local repair cafés (WSU / Snohomish County).
Ed is survived by wife (Betsy), daughter and son-in-law (Karin & David Leder II), son and daughter-in-law (Michael Siedlik & Sarah Vieldhouse), brother (James & Judy Siedlik), brother-in-law (Richard Brodsack), two granddaughters (Nickoal & Zachary Snyder; Renee Leder), and great grandson (Dallas Snyder). A memorial Mass is scheduled for 11:00AM on Saturday, September 28th at Holy Cross Catholic Church in Lake Stevens. In lieu of flowers, donations may be graciously made in his honor to Boys Town (Ways to Give | Boys Town) or the Adopt-A-Stream Foundation of Snohomish County (Donations | Adopt A Stream Foundation (streamkeeper.org)).

Edward and Betsy, both are a memorable team, and a perfect husband and wife: as they shared duties at the WSU events they always sat together in their love for closeness...then ED would circulate as he photographed each gathering. I was always rewarded with a short visit and as we spoke we found the common ground in our humor...which often left us in tears and raucous laughter. I'm sure Betsy remembers. Bless all of you.
