Edward Strange Obituary

Edward Strange III CHARLESTON - Edward Lester "Eddie" Strange, III, 72, of Folly Beach, SC, passed away at his home in Charleston, SC, on September 30, 2025. Eddie was born on July 20, 1953, in Columbia, SC. He was the eldest of 4 and the only son of the late Edward "E.L." Lester, Jr. and Patricia Holt Strange. Eddie will be deeply missed by his 3 surviving sisters, Melodye Strange Maiella, Candance Strange Datoc (Rene), and Joye Strange Patzer (Patrick). Eddie grew up in Folly Beach, SC, and went to James Island High School. He studied mechanical engineering at the Trident Technical College in Charleston, SC. Over the years Eddie (known as "Doc" to many of his work friends and colleagues) was assigned to numerous nuclear instrumentation projects at various nuclear plants throughout the Southeast. He was a project superintendent at the LANL Foundation. One of his last projects was in Los Alamos, NM, which was much too cold for our southern beach boy. Eddie enjoyed a wide range of sports and outdoor activities. He was an avid skier, and throughout the years, he won numerous medals for his talents on the slopes. He was a captain of several deep-sea charter fishing boats. Over the course of his career, he earned many citations and tournament victories spanning several decades. Eddie was a loving owner of many dogs throughout his life and he found joy in their companionship. When it came to using his hands, there wasn't much Eddie couldn't do if he put his mind to it. Whether it was fixing, building, growing, or cooking "something," he would figure it out, keep in mind this was long before Google or YouTube. As you can imagine, this was much to the delight of his family and friends, as Eddie was often the "go-to" guy when help or guidance was needed. Eddie leaves behind 2 daughters, Michelle Strange and Patricia Strange Carney (Chris), and their mother, Brenda Hudson Strange, as well as 3 grandsons, Cason, Cooper, and Cash Carney. He will be lovingly remembered by countless cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends who will miss him dearly. Family and friends will remember and celebrate Eddie's life on Sunday, November 9th, at 2 pm at the Folly Beach Baptist Church. Folly Beach, SC. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you plant a tree, shrub, or flowers in Eddie's memory. He loved anything that grew in the dirt. "Don't cry because it's over; smile because it happened."

I met Eddie at James Island Elementary School on Camp Road and was fortunate enough to call him a good friend from then on. We stayed in touch through the Greater Charleston Ski Club and we were on several of the same ski trips over the years.
