Edward M. Syrowski, born October 18,1938, passed away peacefully at home on November 9, 2025 at the age of 87.
Ed graduated from South Amherst High School in 1956 and went on to serve his country proudly in the United States Army. During the Vietnam era, from 1956 to 1960, he was stationed stateside, where he taught military cryptography. He continued to serve as an Army Reservist until 1964.
In 1961, Ed's exceptional logistical skills caught the attention of Paul Leimbach of End O' Way Farms, who asked him to help turn the farm's operations around. Through Ed's dedication and expertise, the farm once again became profitable-and it also became a wonderful place to raise a family, as his daughters fondly remember.
While working full-time at the farm, Ed began pursuing a BS in Mathematics at Cleveland State University. One day, while driving a tractor, he was approached in the field by a local school principal who had heard about his studies and invited him to teach math. That moment marked the beginning of a long and meaningful career with Firelands Local Schools.
Over the next 37 years, Ed served as an 8th-grade math teacher, assistant principal, and assistant to the superintendent/budget manager while continuing to manage the farm through 1985. His dedication to education and his community touched countless lives.
Ed loved traveling and shared many adventures with his dear friend and life partner, Joyce Dudash. Together, they explored much of the United States as well as Russia, Poland, England, and the Scandinavian countries. They enjoyed their time as snowbirds, spending winters in Gulf Shores, Alabama, and Walnut Creek, California, and cherished family vacations and annual fall trips to Peek'n Peak, New York.
A lifelong learner, Ed and Joyce also took part in numerous Elderhostel classes, combining their love of travel with a passion for knowledge.
Ed was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Anna (Konopka) Syrowski; his brother, Joseph Syrowski; and his sister, Dorothy Grozik.
He is survived by his beloved Joyce Dudash; daughters Lynn (John) Brown, Leslie (Denny) West, Kelly (Jerry) Hohler, and Karen (Shane) Kimble; stepchildren Tawnya Dudash and Michael Dudash; grandchildren Kurt West, Adam (Brittany) West, Cassandra West, Libby Hohler, Sophie Hohler, and Teddy Hohler; six step-grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren, Kristina and Liam. He is also survived by siblings Barbara Skolniki, Helen Skodny, Marge (Jeff) Stempowski, Andy (Martha) Syrowski, George Sirow, and Jerry Syrowski, as well as many nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and nephews.
A graveside service with military honors will be held for family on Friday, November 21, 2025 at 11:00 AM at New Russia Twp. Cemetery, 12528 Oberlin Rd, Oberlin, OH 44074. Please meet at the cemetery pavilion.
