Edward "Eddie" Marion Vaughan, 89, of Fayetteville, passed away peacefully on Friday, July 18, 2025, at Valley Hospice House, surrounded by his loving daughters.
Born on April 16, 1936, in Greenville, South Carolina, Eddie was the son of the late Ihrie Raynor Wiggins.
A lover of stories and the written word, Eddie built a long and fulfilling career as a proofreader at the Fayetteville Observer, where he worked diligently for over 30 years before retiring. Beyond his professional life, Eddie remained active and engaged in the things he loved. Whether playing a round of golf or walking the treadmill and lifting weights in his home gym, he valued staying active and did so until he had his stroke five days before his passing.
Eddie had a profound appreciation for history and classic cars-especially older Buicks. He often spoke fondly of his first car, a 1957 Chevy. For over 10 years, he volunteered at the Coats Museum in Coats, North Carolina, where he took great pride in sharing the rich culture and history of the community.
He also found peace in nature-feeding birds in his backyard or watching the waves at the beach brought him great joy and contentment.
In addition to his mother, Eddie was preceded in death by his brother, Jimmie Vaughn.
He is survived by his daughters, Jacona Brown (Bill), Katrina Smith, and Jessica Vaughan; his brother, Richard "Dickie" Wiggins (Jenny); and his grandchildren, Treavor Brown, Levi Brown, Kayla Smith, David Vance, and another who shares his passion for classic Buicks and appreciation of history.
The family extends its heartfelt thanks to the compassionate staff at Valley Hospice House for their exceptional care and support during Eddie's final days.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Coats Museum in honor of Eddie's enduring dedication to preserving and sharing local history.
A funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, July 22, 2025, at Jernigan-Warren Funeral Home. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow at Lafayette Memorial Park West.
