Edward Yanke Obituary

Edward Alan Yanke, age 79, of St. Joseph, Michigan, passed away on December 28, 2025, at Elkhart General Hospital in Elkhart, Indiana, surrounded by those who loved him.

Ed was born on October 10, 1946, in Michigan City, Indiana, to the late Kenneth Yanke and Mary Ann (Palmer) Yanke. On May 18, 1968, he married the love of his life, Theresa Marie (Dettmer) Yanke. Together, they shared 57 years of marriage.

He is survived by his loving wife, Theresa "Terri" Yanke of St. Joseph, Michigan; his children, Rachel (Brett) Kelly of Granger, Indiana, Andrew Yanke of Indianapolis, Indiana, and Jeffrey (Sailei) Yanke of Happy Valley, Oregon; and his four grandchildren, Meagan, Benjamin, and Maura Kelly, and Vincent Yanke.

Ed is also survived by his sisters, Frances Yanke of Fargo, North Dakota, Anna Kersey of South Bend, Indiana; and his brothers, Douglas Yanke of Houston, Texas, and Bryon (Shelley) Yanke of Michigan City, Indiana. He was preceded in death by his sister, Carol Yanke.

Ed lived a full and beautiful life. He loved his family more than anything and was a devoted provider. His life was filled with fun and memorable adventures, both as a child and as an adult, and the stories he shared will endure.

An entrepreneur, Ed spent much of his career in the trucking industry before retiring. His speedy typing skills as a youngster opened the door to many business opportunities and helped shape the life he would build with Terri. Together, they created a life rich with adventure and travel. Ed cherished his family, especially his children and grandchildren. His heart was immense, and he loved generously and wholeheartedly.

A memorial service will be held on Monday, January 5, at 4:00 p.m. at Palmer Funeral Home – Hickory Chapel, 17131 Cleveland Road, South Bend, Indiana 46635. Friends may call from 3:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. prior to the service.

Ed will be remembered for the many adventurous and humorous stories he shared with the family and friends he loved so dearly. These stories continue to bring smiles and joy. His honesty, humor, determination, and unwavering love for his family will forever be held in our hearts.
