Edwin Gilbert Evans Jr.

Edwin Gilbert Evans Jr. passed away peacefully from a ruptured aorta at his home in Flora, MS, on Tuesday, November 18, 2025, at the age of 80. He was born July 21,1945, to Edwin Gilbert Evans Sr. and Marguerite Clyde Ellis in Houston Texas.
While growing up in Rolling Fork MS, He attended Rolling Fork high school class of 1963. Gil was active in football and track. He ran a record 9.8 second hundred-yard dash, which is where he got the nickname" Speedy" from. He then attended MS College and played football on scholarship there in his freshmen year. He declined to run track in college because "He had to run track to play football in high school, in college, He did not" He then transferred to Mississippi State University and graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Business and Industry. He then immediately took a job in Dallas TX with International Harvester. Later, to Parchman prison in MS as director of prison industries.
He also had a stint with the State of MS under the agricultural department under Jim Buck Ross. Then he finished up his working career in North Carolina with wife Lynn doing wholesale gift shows while traveling all over the country.
Gil was very active in the music ministries at FBC Flora MS as well as the food ministry and He helped Lynn teach first grade Sunday school every week.
Gil is survived by his wife Lynn Schabilion Evans of Flora, MS, His sister: Karen Cooley of Clinton MS, daughter, Gay Fearis (late Cam) of Dallas TX, and son "Trey" Evans, whereabouts unknown, daughter Tonya Smith Rutherford (late Jamey) of Belton, TX ; Valerie (David)Reynolds of Flora, MS, Darin (Sunny) of Flora, MS, Laurie (Lang) Rogers of Ellisville, MS, and Sasha (Shelton) of Flora MS. Then there are also several nieces and nephews, many grandkids as well as great grandchildren.
