Doctor Edwin S. Fields
Doctor Edwin (Ed) Fields, 95, passed away peacefully in his Lexington home
surrounded by family on March 11, 2025. Dr. Fields is survived by his wife.
Martha (Jones), his son Ted Fields, daughter-in-law Elly Churchill and two
grandsons Leo and Tynan of Arlington as well as many nieces and nephews. Dr.
Fields is predeceased by his parents, Edwin Fields and Mildred Hickey, and two
siblings: Carol Fields and John Fields.
Ed Fields was born in Boston on February 27, 1930 and grew up in
Massachusetts, New Hampshire and Wisconsin. His lifelong love of golf developed
from years of caddying as a youth in Rye Beach, New Hampshire. Ed attended the
University of Wisconsin and later graduated from Boston University, before
serving in the Navy as a radar repairman during the Korean War. After naval
service, Ed built houses in Boston's suburbs before enrolling in Tufts University's
Dental School. Upon graduating from Tufts, Ed, now Dr. Fields, opened his dental
practice in Harvard Square, where for more than forty years he served patients
from all over the world. Throughout his career Ed also donated his services to
Lazarus House in Lawrence. Ed was renowned among patients for his gentle
touch, affable banter and willingness to perform house calls.
Ed married Martha Jones in 1960, and together they enjoyed golf, skiing, hiking
and traveling with their son Ted, daughter in law Elly and later grandsons Leo
and Tynan. Ed also enjoyed annual golfing forays to Scotland and Ireland while
playing regularly with Martha at Winchester Country Club. Ed loved holiday
entertaining with family and friends, welcoming all guests with kind words,
compliments and colorful stories.
Donations in Dr. Fields' memory may be made to Lazarus House Ministries
(https://lazarushouse.org/donate-now/). Burial services are private.
