Well late on December 15, 2025 we gained another angel in the Herrick family. Edwin S. Herrick passed away in his sleep after fighting for 15 days in ICU. Thankfully he was asleep. No one in the family wanted him to suffer any more.
He was an amazing man, father, grandfather and friend. He loved everyone and helps everyone no matter what it costs him (sleep, stamina, even money). He taught his family what a good human was and how to treat people with respect even if they treated you wrong.
He was a veteran of the US Navy and served for many years and after he was discharged from the service he went into trucking and went all over the United States. Always sending us postcards from where he was or bringing back the collector cards of the truckers (pets) and their trucks. Spending time with his wife, daughters, and grandchildren all the time when he came home from trucking. He would watch all of his grandkids at once letting them play in his giant yard, having sleep overs, having nerf gun wars and even went to Disney World. He used to play all the time outside, tying sleds to his lawnmower dragging the kids in the snow, teaching them how to drive the lawnmower, he taught them how to use tools and fix things whenever he could, he taught all of us who we are today because without him we wouldn't be this way he did such an impact on all of our lives.
He was an amazing husband to his wife Joanne (Lute) Herrick for 45 years, leaving behind two beautiful daughters Julie (Herrick) Gudzinas, and Catherine (Herrick) Rhoads. As well as ten grandchildren that loved him so much, Alice Gudzinas, Dominic Rhoads, Rebecca Gudzinas, Jolynn Rhoads, Martha Gudzinas, Hailie, Rhoads, Michael Rhoads, Isaac Gudzinas, Evelyn Harms, Zachary Lacey, as well as one great granddaughter Rose Gudzinas.
He made sure his family was fed with his last dollars at times (it never mattered to him) he was an amazing person. He went to Niagara Falls going on the "Maid of the Mist" and was proud to tell his grandkids how his parents were from New York every time it was brought up or when he drove through that state.
We've all done so much with him and we are going to miss him so much and we truly are trying our hardest to maintain our lives without him, but he was everyone's rock. He stood up and did the impossible and became a "Dad" to some of his grandkids and helped so much they look at him as a father. We all wish we had more time with him, we wish for more cuddles, more laughs, more of everything. Seeing him in that hospital knowing he was suffering not wanting us to see him like that but wanting us killed us all. At least we were able to give him one last kiss on the forehead and a final hug goodbye.
We love you Ed, Dad, and Papa you'll be missed by so many and will forever be loved by so many. We all still can't believe this really happened, at least you're finally reunited with your son Edward Herrick, your mother Beaulah Herrick, your father Leonard Herrick, and brothers Leonard Herrick and Donald Herrick again. Please watch over all of us. We miss you and we love you so much. May you always rest in peace we will never forget 02-20-1955 - 12-15-2025.
