Edwin C. Hoyt

Edwin C. Hoyt, 79, of Cooper City, Florida, passed away November 1st, 2025, at home.

A memorial service will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. on Sunday, January 4th, 2026, at the Cooper City Community Center, 9000 SW. 50th Place, Cooper City, Fla. Tributes will begin at 2:30 p.m.

Ed was born in Bradford County, Pennsylvania, on May 19th, 1946, the oldest of eight born to Harold Dean Hoyt and Sarah Hoyt. He graduated from Wyalusing High School in 1964. He then went on to serve in the Air Force for four years training to become an air traffic controller, reaching the rank of sergeant . During his service he was stationed in many places including Vietnam and Alaska. Following his discharge he was hired by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and began his career in Long Island, New York.

He married Sharon LaRoque on July 5th, 1970, in Long Island, New York. They bought a house in Patchogue, New York. In that house they had two children. While living in Long Island, Ed attended Aldelphi University. They moved to South Florida in 1978. Ed worked as an air traffic controller until his retirement in 2002, achieving leadership roles at Opa Locka Airport and Miami Center.

Ed was a lifelong golfer. After he retired, he joined Lago Mar Country Club in Plantation where he was a member for over 20 years where he was able to devote time and effort to his passion for golf. Golf wasn't his only pastime. He also enjoyed taking on home improvement projects, became very interested in cooking, and most of all spending time with his grandchildren. Ed was always busy. If he wasn't playing golf, working on a project or in the kitchen, he could be found on the back patio enjoying "wine time".

The oldest of eight, Ed was preceded in death by his parents and four of his siblings: David Hoyt, Fred Hoyt, Gwen Durante, and Terry Hoyt.

Ed is survived by his wife, Sharon; son, Mark Hoyt (Kim Clemons Hoyt) of Davie, Fla.; daughter Lauren Hoyt-Williams of Fort Mill, S.C.; grandchildren Justin Hoyt, 18, Jake Hoyt, 16, Zoe Williams, 17, and Reese Williams, 13; siblings, Susan Turnbull, Reese (Kim) Hoyt, and Roger (Maureen) Hoyt; sisters-in-law Judy (Fred) Hoyt and Marlea (Terry) Hoyt; brother-in-law Gus (Gwen) Durante; and numerous nieces and nephews.
