Edwin (Big Ed) Kaestner Obituary
Today we celebrate the life of Edwin W. Kaestner - known to so many simply and affectionately as Big Ed.

Born on June 6, 1940, in Cushing, MN, to William and Elizabeth Kaestner. Ed grew up surrounded by the joyful chaos and strength of a big family - six brothers and one sister - all of whom had now gone before him. Ed was the last surviving sibling, a quiet testament to the enduring spirit that carried him through a life well-lived.

Ed spent most of his years in the Seattle area, but his heart was always somewhere else - in the rugged, beautiful wilds of Montana. That is where his soul belonged, and eleven years ago, he made that dream a reality when he moved to Libby, Montana. There, surrounded by the mountains and forests he cherished, he lived out his days fulfilling his lifelong passion: hunting and living close to nature.

Ed's legacy stretches far beyond the woods and the hunt, he was a gifted musician, a man whose love for country music poured out through every note he sang and every string he strummed. With a guitar in his hands and a twinkle in his eye. Big Ed became a beloved local legend in the greater Seattle area. His voice - powerful, warm, unmistakable - drew people in and kept them coming back. Wherever he played, the crowds followed. They came not to just hear the music, but to feel something genuine - something real - that only Big Ed could deliver.

More than anything, Ed was a family man. He was a devoted father to five children: Daniel, Dwight Duane (who we know was there to greet him at Heaven's gates), Robert, and Teressa. He also lovingly embraced two stepchildren, Dawn and Kirk, as his own. His pride and joy extended to a multitude of grandchildren and great-grandchildren, each of whom he loved with his whole heart. They were his legacy, his joy, his purpose.

At the center of Ed's world stood the woman who held his heart - Delores, the love of his life. Their bond was deep and unwavering, a true love that brought him peace, happiness, and strength.

Ed passed away peacefully, surrounded by loved ones on July 22, 2025. Though he may no longer walk beside us, his presence is far from gone. He will forever live in all of our hearts, in the sound of the wind rustling in the trees, in the echo of laughter around a campfire, and most certainly, in the music that will forever ring in our ears.

He was a son, a brother, a father, a husband, a grandfather, a friend, a musician, and a man who truly lived. Now his spirit soars - free, wild, and full of song - just like the Montana sky he loved so much.

We love you, Ed (Big Ed), and we will never forget you!

Dad, you are so missed already. I miss your laugh, your smile, your voice. I miss just calling you and checking in. There will be a void here without you Dad. I know you are in no more pain and you have a new body. I also know that moment you took your last breaths, you were looking around in awe. I will forever believe that is the moment to passed through those pearly gates, in a new body, seeing all of your loved ones that were there to greet you.

Tell everyone I said hello!!

Goodbye, for now but not forever. I´ll meet you at the gates and you can fill me in on everything you´ve been learning!!

Love, your one and only
