Lucas Funeral Home - HurstEdwin Clay Lawrence, 81, of Grapevine, Texas, passed away January 24, 2026, surrounded by the love of his family. Born on August 12, 1944, in Nashville, Arkansas, Edwin was a country boy at heart– shaped by strong values and deep roots in family.
Edwin moved to Farmers Branch, Texas in 1961 at age 17, carrying with him the grit and determination that would define the rest of his life. He built his future through skill and integrity, becoming a proud business owner and later fulfilling one of his greatest joys – working side by side with his son, Jeff. Whether on a job site, in his garage, or supporting their sprint car racing team, Edwin found happiness in building things with his hands and making memories with his family and friends.
Edwin was known for his strength, generosity, and unwavering love for those closest to him. He was the kind of man who was always willing to help, always steady, always dependable. He loved tinkering, fixing and creating, and could sometimes be found relaxing with a classic western show or movie. Edwin enjoyed hunting and fishing, never losing touch with the simple joys of a true country life.
Above all else, Edwin loved his family fiercely. He was a devoted husband, a proud father, grandfather, and great-grandfather whose legacy lives on through generations. Edwin was confident in his faith in our Lord Jesus Christ, a foundation that guided his life, his values, and the way he loved and served others.
He is survived by his wife, Karen Lawrence; son Jeff Lawrence and wife Elizabeth; daughters, Bandi Johnson and Meleia Waschka and husband Roman; grandsons Hudson Johnson, Haden Johnson and wife Taylor; and great-granddaughter, Emrie. He was preceded in death by parents JT and Lucy Lawrence; son-in-law Dennis Johnson; and cherished aunt and uncle, Louise and Jim Reed.
Edwin’s life was one of purpose, love, and quiet strength. He leaves behind not just memories, but lessons of loyalty, faith and what it means to love your family well.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, February 22, from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at Bandi Johnson’s home (9008 Cedar Breaks Dr., NRH, TX), where family and friends will gather to share stories, laughter, and the enduring spirit of a man who meant so much to so many. Interment will be at Mineral Springs Cemetery in Mineral Springs, Arkansas.
