Edwin Lind Obituary
Edwin O. Lind, died on Wednesday, August 16, 2006, at Mount Olivet Careview Home in Minneapolis. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM, on Monday, August 21, 2006 at First Lutheran Church in Litchfield with Pastor David Sorensen and Pastor Drew Flathmann officiating. Visitation will be held on Sunday from 3:00 until 6:00 PM at Johnson-Hagglund Funeral Home and will continue one hour prior to the services at the Church. Interment will be at Lake Ripley Cemetery in Litchfield. Military honors will be provided by Admiral Benson V.F.W. Post #2818 of Litchfield.

Edwin Oswald Lind was born on June 11, 1915, in Irving Township, Kandiyohi County, the son of John and Anna Gabrielson Lind. He was baptized on August 22, 1915 and confirmed on June 30, 1929, both of them in Nordland Lutheran Church. He attended school in District 92 of Kandiyohi County. During his youth he did farm work in the area. He later worked for the Spicer Oil Company. On June 24, 1941, he was married to Eunice Nelson of Grove City at the First Lutheran Church there. They made their first home in Spicer where he was employed. Shortly after, on April 16, 1942, he was inducted into military service. He received his training at Camp Wolters, Mineral Wells, Texas. Following his training, he served as an instructor in heavy weapons. From there he was transferred to Camp Blanding, Florida where he was an instructor in anti-tank weapons. Next he was assigned to the 32nd Infantry Division in the Philippine Islands. He was Squad Leader of a Rifle Squad, Company G, 128th Infantry, 32nd Division. Edwin was in combat on the islands of Leyte and Luzon. He was wounded in action April 15, 1945 on the Ville Verda Trail for which he was awarded the Purple Heart. He was hospitalized in the Philippines until August when he was returned to the States. He reached Madigan General Hospital in Fort Lewis, Washington September 5, 1945. After being hospitalized in Schick General Hospital in Clinton, Iowa and Percy Jones Hospital Center in Battle Creek, Michigan, he was discharged from the Army on December 5, 1945. He made his home in Litchfield where his wife was residing while teaching in Darwin. From that time until his retirement he was a dealer in Mobil Products, owning a service station and a bulk plant. Edwin had been a member of the VFW Post #2818 since 1945, where he served a term as Commander and Drillmaster of the Drill Team for twenty-five years. He was a Life Member of the VFW and the Military Order of the Purple Heart. Edwin was an avid TWINS baseball fan.
Edwin is survived by his wife, Eunice of Minneapolis, son, John and Kristi Lind of Minneapolis, 2 grandchildren, Milea and Riley Lind. He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister, Gladys Thompson, three brothers, Andrew, John and Morgan.
