Mr. Edwin H. Quinn Sr.
Edwin Hal Quinn, Sr. was born September 16, 1949, in Magee, Mississippi. He was the eldest of six children born to the late Willie Charles Quinn and Willie Etta Griffith Quinn. Edwin accepted Jesus Christ at an early age and was baptized at Harmony Baptist Church in Mt. Olive, Mississippi. He later joined Shady Grove Missionary Baptist Church in
Jackson, Mississippi.
Edwin completed his high school education in the Jackson Public School (JPS) System graduating from Brinkley High School with honors in 1967. On an otherwise uneventful trip to the bank one day, Edwin caught the eye of a beautiful bank teller, Deloris Robinson. Edwin and Deloris fell in love, and they were united in holy matrimony on March 24, 1975. Edwin became the proud father of four boys: Bobby Harris; Kenya Johnson; Edwin Quinn, Jr.; and Darryl Quinn. Edwin was a devoted public school teacher for over 50 years. He taught chemistry and physics at
Callaway High School for most of his teaching career where he was selected "Teacher of the Year". He was also named "Teacher of the Year" by Parents for Public Education. Inspiring and challenging young minds through engaging lectures and science experiments, Edwin also served as a judge for the Jackson Public School District's Annual Science Fair for many years. After retirement from JPS,
Edwin taught at Canton Public School District. For over 27 years, Edwin worked at Tougaloo College helping to prepare students for Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) careers through the Jackson Heart Study / Science, Language Arts, and Mathematics (SLAM) Workshops. Teaching was not just Edwin's career path: it was his passion.
Edwin is preceded in death by his wife of 32 years, Deloris Robinson Quinn. He will forever be cherished by family, co-workers, neighbors, and friends. His legacy continues through his four sons: Bobby Harris (Marilyn), Savannah, Georgia; Kenya Johnson (Michelle), Brandon, Mississippi; Edwin Quinn, Jr. (Renika), Knoxville, Tennessee; and Darryl Quinn (Airriel), Flowood, Mississippi; six grandchildren: Ashton, Mitchell, Kameron, McKenna, Bryson, and Nicolette.
