Edwin Charles Simons, 86, died peacefully at home on May 7 surrounded by his beloved wife of 61 years, Delores, his cherished daughters Suzanne (Kevin) and Holly and his adored animal companions Reese, Cloe and Bugs. Ed died after a brief and courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. Born December 23, 1933 in Youngtown, Ohio, Ed was a 1956 graduate of Youngstown State University. He served in the US Army and National Guard and was a successful business man having founded Simons Brokerage Agency in 1975, which he and Delores ran for 25 years. Family meant everything to Ed. He loved deeply and was deeply beloved. Ed enjoyed more than 60 years of entertaining and sharing his love of music through his membership in the Society for the Preservation and Encouragement of Barber Shop Quartet Singing in America (SPEBSQSA). Ed was a tenor in the quartet, A Great Bunch of Guys, for 47 years. The group was recognized by SPEBSQSA for its active participation in chapter shows, community performances and showing "what it means to be a friend, a leader and, most importantly, a Barber Shopper." Giving back to others was important to Ed as he served as a reading and math tutor to elementary school children. He was a loyal and generous friend who was known for his kindness, his dry sense of humor, telling a good joke and his fascination with magic. Travel was a passion as Ed and Dee were fortunate to enjoy trips abroad to Hong Kong, China, New Zealand, Australia, Portugal and Spain as well as nationally to Las Vegas, Chicago and Hawaii, which was a particular favorite. In his final weeks, Ed was cared for by Holy Family Hospice at home. His family would like to recognize those who provided him with compassionate and dignified care - nurses Rachel and Margaret Mary and STNA Juan. Memorials may be forwarded in Ed's memory to Holy Family Hospice or the Greater Cleveland Food Bank. Private Family Services. A Celebration of Life to be planned will be announced on our website. 440 842 7800 www.buschcares.com

I was sitting in LA tonight, and it popped into my mind to Google Eddie. Dee, I remember you and him well from your visits to Akron back in the 60s. May his memory be a blessing. Cousin Jerry Rosenblum

Ed was special because he was upbeat and always happy to spend time with you. He was a really decent person. His smile, his jokes, his laughter made him a wonderful friend. He cast a long shadow and spread much good cheer and goodwill. I will miss being with him but will keep him forever in my memory.

Nice, nice, nice, NICE man!!! That's what my mom would always say anytime you mentioned the Simons family. I met Mr. Simons when I was 11 years old, I loved him then and always will. He was the kind of man (and the type of family) you can always depend on, as though they were your own. What an honor to have known him! Until we meet again my friend, may God hold you in the palm of his hand. Love, Maureen
