Edwin Robert Smith

Edwin R. Smith, 90, of Winterset passed away Wednesday, May 23rd surrounded by family at the Winterset Care Center South. Visitation service will be held from 4-8 PM Friday, May 25th at the Johnson Family Funeral Home in Earlham. The family will greet guests from 6:30-8 PM. Funeral service will be held Saturday, May 26 at 10 AM at the Earlham United Methodist Church. Burial will be held at the Earlham City Cemetery. Online condolences may be left at www.johnsonfamilyfuneralhome.com. Edwin was born February 16, 1922. He was the son of Clarence and Della Smith. Edwin married Marjorie Hadley August 22, 1943. After graduating from Earlham High School he joined the U.S. Navy Air Corps. Edwin worked as a machinist until his retirement. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, wood working, traveling and camping with family and friends. He was a volunteer fireman and a member of the American Legion. He is survived by his wife Marjorie, sister Doris Rutherford, brother in laws Howard and Leonard Hadley. His children Sharon (Don) Jones, Barb (Darwin) Snook, Edwin H. (Connie) Smith. Grandchildren Kurt (Jessica) Jones, Greg (Laurie) Jones, Brant (Marcia) Snook, Michelle (Roger) Byer, Cory Smith, Keith (Andrea) Smith, Justine Smith. Great-Grandchildren Kessa, Justice and Amara Jones, Ryker and Hennley Jones, Christopher and Donovan Snook and Ashlyn Byer, Taryn and Wesley Smith. Edwin was preceded in death by his parents Clarence and Della Smith and sister Twila Eagan. Memorial contributions may be made to the Earlham Fire Department and Middle River Hospice in Winterset.
