Edwin Thomas Sylak, age 88, of Perrysburg, OH, passed away at his home on March 29, 2025. He was born on July 1, 1936, in Toledo, OH, to Anthony and Victoria (Maroszek) Sylak. He married Bernadette "Bonnie" Kwiatkowski on October 24, 1992. He was also known as "E.T." and "Big Ed" to family and friends.

He was a graduate of St. Hedwig School in 1949 and graduated high school from Macomber in 1953. He also graduated from the Ohio School of Banking and continued his education throughout his career. He proudly served in the U.S. Army from 1954 to 1956 during the Korean Conflict. In 1957, he began his lifelong career in banking, as a teller trainee at Toledo Trust. He served many roles during his career as Toledo Trust grew to become Key Bank. He held various positions and eventually became the manager of the branch where he started. He retired from Key Bank as a vice president and group manager with twelve branches reporting to him. His community involvement included Junior Achievement Advisor of the Year award in 1964, receiving the Point Place Business Association Business Mover of the Year award in 1973 and served as president in 1975. Ed was also an active member of the National Exchange Club of Toledo serving as president in 1986.

Big Ed was an avid sports fan and enjoyed following Notre Dame Football, Redwings Hockey, and Tigers Baseball. He loved spending time with his grandchildren and attended many of their sporting events. He also enjoyed fishing and golfing.

Ed is survived by his loving wife, Bonnie; children, Tom (Amy) Sylak, Linda (Michael) Christopher and Scott (Darlene) Sylak; 7 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; and the mother of his children, Joan Sylak. He was preceded in death by his parents; siblings, Helen Raczko, Frank Sylak and Anthony Sylak; and grandson, Joey Sheehy.

Per the deceased wishes the funeral service will be private. Memorial contributions may be directed to The Toledo Clinic Foundation. Arrangements by Witzler-Shank-Walker, Perrysburg, OH.

I have known Ed ever since I was old enough to walk over to the house on Elm street to hang out with Tom. Have many great memories of him. He helped coach our basketball team at St. Hedwig. Went fishing, and golfing with him. He also got me started on learning about finance, by helping me with a loan for my first car. My condolences and prayers go out to all of the Sylak family.
