Edwin Trufant Sr.

Edwin Albert Trufant, Sr., affectionately known as "Black," was summoned from service to eternal rest on Friday, April 25, 2025, at the age of 83, surrounded by his loving family.
Born on August 25, 1941, in New Orleans, Louisiana, Edwin was the beloved son of the late Edward N. Trufant, Sr. and Ruth Charles Trufant. He was a proud graduate of George Washington Carver High School. Following graduation, he deepened his commitment to service by enlisting in the United States Air Force, a decision that would shape his lifelong dedication to family, community, and country.
A man of many talents and strong work ethic, Edwin served as a Policeman for the City of New Orleans, where he protected and served with integrity. He was also a skilled self-contractor who brought care and craftsmanship to every project he touched. Outside of his professional life, Edwin found joy and peace in nature. He was an avid outdoorsman who loved fishing, hunting, and trawling the waters of South Louisiana hobbies that reflected his deep connection to the land and the simple joys of life.
Edwin is survived by his devoted wife, Fannie Goodrich Trufant, and his loving mother-in-law, Winnie Collins. His legacy continues through his children: Junonna T. Alexis, Denna A. Trufant, Kimberlyn T. Gibson (James), Moneak P. Trufant, Edwin A. Trufant Jr. (Rosanna), Tyric G. Trufant, Rasheeda T. Scott (Jamal Sr.), Danielle M. Johnson, James Goodrich, Jr., Nastase Goodrich, and Amarione Collins.
He was the proud grandfather of Aytrecia Alexis, Deryn D. Toulson, Joaquin Alexis, Brittani Rucker, LaShan Petit-Burke (Vincent), Edwin A. Trufant III, Megan Trufant-Tillman, Kylah Mickens, Maya Giles, Jamal Jr., Kylie, and Levi Scott. His great-grandchildren - Jaida and Jordan Marks, Jaci and Jersi Doucette, Cameryn and Blaze Boger, Kadyn Burke, and Amaya, Anya, Aria, and Alya Alexis - were his pride and joy.
Edwin is also survived by his brothers-in-law Norris Boyd, Andrew Collins, Isaac Collins; sisters-in-law Viola Finley (Clarence) and Brenda Collins; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and lifelong friends who will deeply miss his presence.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Ruth Trufant, Sr.; his siblings, Edward N. Trufant, Jr. and Evelyn Trufant-Boyd; his niece, Tamia Trufant-Wade; and his beloved grandson, Brent Mickens, Jr.
Edwin's life was a beautiful testament to service, love, and quiet strength. He leaves behind a legacy rooted in devotion to family, community, and a steadfast belief in doing what is right. His memory will live on in the hearts of all who were blessed to know and love him.
