Mr. Edwin Leon Winstead

Edwin Leon Winstead, passed away Saturday, April 5th, 2014. Leon was born in Wilson County on November 4, 1935 to William C. Winstead and Katie Batts Winstead. Leon was the owner of Leon Winstead Roofing for 52 years. He was a loving father, grandfather, and great grandfather. A Funeral Service will be held at Thomas-Yelverton Funeral Home on Tuesday April 8, 2014 at 6 PM with the Rev. Jonathan Ange of Wildwood Church officiating, visitation will follow the service and the family will receive friends until 8:30 PM. Interment will be on Wednesday April 9, 2014 at 1 PM at Maplewood Cemetery, Wilson NC in the Rose Garden. Leon is survived by his wife, Shirley Thula Long Winstead of the home, one daughter, Tammy W. Pittman and husband Bobby of Wilson, four sons, Christopher (Chris) Winstead and friend Rose of Wilson, Randall (Randy) Winstead and wife Jackie of Lucama, Gary Winstead and wife Joan of Rock Ridge, and James Winstead and wife Tracy of Clayton; eight grandchildren; twelve great grandchildren; five step-grandchildren and four step-great-grandchildren; one sister, Carolyn W. Davis of Wilson; two brothers, Tom Winstead and wife Lucille of Sumter SC and Howard Winstead and wife Jill of Rocky Mount; and many nieces and nephews; and his K-9 friend Gigi. He was preceded in death by his parents, three sisters Betty Jean Winstead, Katie W. Walsh and Marjorie W. Spencer; three brothers, William C. Winstead Jr.(Cliff) and R.C Winstead and Sidney F.
