In Loving Memory of Effie Ellen Gay Owens
October 7, 1931 – October 31, 2025
Effie Ellen Gay Owens, a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and faithful servant of Jehovah, peacefully passed away on October 31, 2025, in Rockdale, Texas, at the age of 94.
Born in Lexington, Texas, in Lee County, Effie was the cherished daughter of Thadius "Dick" Gay and Martha Reynolds Gay. She received her early education in Lexington and later attended Durham Business College in Austin, Texas.
On August 26, 1950, Effie married the love of her life, Dale Owens Sr., in Caldwell, Texas. Together, they built a home in Rockdale in 1953, where Effie remained until her passing. She and Dale were baptized as Jehovah's Witnesses on March 14, 1959, and Effie remained a zealous and joyful servant of Jehovah throughout her life. She prioritized Bible study with her children and found great joy in sharing her faith with others.
Effie was preceded in death by her parents; her brother, Rex Bennie Gay; her beloved husband, Dale Owens Sr.; her son, Andrew Owens; and her daughter, Susan Beaudroux.
She is survived by her siblings, Mrs. Billey Gene Strong of Caldwell and Mr. Pat Gay Jr. of Georgetown; her children: Linda Brown (Melvin) of International Falls, Minnesota; Gloria Daniel (Gerald) of Tyler, Texas; Shirley Owens of Rockdale, Texas; and Dale Owens Jr. (Theodosia) of Rockdale, Texas. Effie also leaves behind a legacy of love through her 14 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren, and 8 great-great-grandchildren.
Effie's passions included cooking, sewing, gardening, camping, and traveling. She was known for her warmth, wisdom, and unwavering devotion to her family and faith. Her presence was a blessing to all who knew her, and she will be deeply missed.
