Eileen T. Killenberger, 79, of Hilton Head Island, SC, entered into eternal life on Wednesday, November 19, 2025, at her home, surrounded by her 3 children. She was born December 16, 1945, in "da Bronx", NY, to John Joseph and Evelyn Teresa Igoe.
Eileen graduated from Walton High School in the Bronx, NY. On April 12, 1969, she married the love of her life, Robert B. Killenberger, at Holy Spirit Church. They lived in the Bronx for five years, then moved to Garris. NY, in 1974.
Strong, steadfast, and full of heart, she lived her life with the determination and fierce loyalty that earned her the affectionate nickname of "bulldog" from her children. It was a testament to her unwavering strength, as she fought for what mattered, protected those she loved, and displayed resilience every day. As a stay-at-home mother, she poured her whole heart into nurturing and guiding her children and the children in the neighborhood, giving them all a foundation of love that shaped who they are. In the late 1980s, she returned to the workforce with Prudential Insurance, where she brought her trademark work ethic, kindness, and dedication.
After both Eileen and Bob retired in 1999, they settled in Bluffton, SC, where she embraced a new chapter of life, with grace and joy. After Bob passed away in 2008, Eileen relocated to Hilton Head Island, SC. Since moving to SC, she was very active with St. Francis by the Sea Catholic Church. Eileen was a member of Women of St. Francis, Ladies of Ancient Order of Hibernians, and she volunteered at the St. Francis Thrift Shop. With her incredible and extraordinarily creative eye for floral arrangements and interior design, she designed alter flowers with beauty and reverence, from 2008-2019. She also found deep fulfillment in leading Flowers for Friends, a ministry that created arrangements post-Mass and gave them to nursing care facility residents.
Eileen has been reunited with the love of her life, Bob, in heaven. She is survived by her son, Robert J, Killenberger of Brooklyn, NY; daughters, Jeannine Killenberger (Bryan DiGirolamo) of Poughkeepsie, NY, and Laureen Killenberger of San Luis Obispo, CA; and eight grandchildren, Crislyn and Kaylie Nolan and Kiera Killenberger; Addyson, Reese, Regan, Blake and Kelsey Killenberger. Eileen is also survived by her sister, Anne Marie Schiffer, and by her loyal and beloved dog, Finnegan. She was predeceased by her brother, Brian Igoe.
Eileen's funeral service will be on Tuesday, 12/2, beginning with an open viewing, from 9:15am-9:45am. The Mass of Catholic Faith will begin at 10:00am in the church. Arrangements by The Island Funeral Home and Crematory.
