Eileen Leibhan Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Thompson - Larson Funeral Home, Minot on Mar. 16, 2026.
Eileen Leibhan, 91, Devils Lake, formerly of Minot, passed away Monday, March 16, 2026, at Eventide Heartland Care in Devils Lake.

Eileen Zainhofsky was born August 5, 1934, to Martin and Juliana (Wolfe) Zainhofsky in Rugby, ND. She graduated from Esmond High School as the class Valedictorian in 1952. She furthered her education by attending Minot State Teacher's College, where she earned her teaching certificate. She taught in rural schools near Esmond for three years, then taught one year in Harlow, ND.

Eileen was united in marriage to John M. Leibhan, the love of her life, on August 7, 1956, at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Esmond. They were married for 54 years, when John passed away in June of 2010.

Eileen worked in an insurance agency after marriage for many years and retired in 1996.

Eileen loved evenings out, a night of dancing or playing cards with friends. Pinochle was by far her favorite and Bingo was reserved for girls' night out. She was an avid bowler and won several awards.

Due to Eileen's declining health, her niece, Julie Bergeron, moved her to Devils Lake in 2018, and was her main caretaker. In March of 2022, Eileen began life in the nursing home until her passing.

She was a member of Little Flower Catholic Church for many years.

Eileen was a kind and loving woman, who loved spending time with family and friends. She had a feisty, fun personality and thoroughly loved to tease. She will be deeply missed by everyone who knew her. She left behind a lot of happy memories. The family will miss our Camera Queen!

Her loving family includes: sister, Lucille Parsons; sisters-in-law, Carol Leibhan, Clara Volkers, and Berenice Leibhan; brothers-in-law, Richard Leibhan, and Ray Volkers; along with numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, John; infant son, Gary; infant daughter, Mary Anne; brother, Anthony Zainhofsky; sister, Ludwena Syverson; brothers-in-law, Mike Aebly, Stanley Syverson, Jospeh Leibhan, Robert Leibhan, Paul Neubauer, and Pius Richter; sisters-in-law, Laura Aebly, Dorothy Richter, Marion Neubauer, and Eleanor Ehni.
