Eileen O'Connor Obituary

O'Connor, Eileen
NASSAU - Eileen O'Connor died peacefully at home on June 26, 2024, with family at her side.
The eldest of James and Elaine Clavin's 14 children, Eileen was born in New Rochelle, New York on September 30, 1947. She is survived by her husband of 42 years, Darren; her four children, Tanya, Tasha (Dave), Niko, and Daniel (Regina); her 12 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
Eileen was predeceased by her parents; brother, Jimmy; and brother-in-law, Randy Knob. She is survived by 12 of her siblings, Mary, Ann, Teresa, Virginia, Thomas, Jane, Joseph, Kathy, Patty, Richard, Elizabeth and Terry.
Eileen obtained her bachelor's degree at the College of New Rochelle, her master's degree at Polytechnic University of N.Y., and her PhD at the State University of New York at Albany. She worked at IBM and taught at The College of St. Rose, UAlbany, RPI, and Empire State College (as Professor of Education).
A devout Catholic and a daily communicant for many years, Eileen's life was above all centered on Jesus Christ. She was always dedicated to her children and grandchildren, and to helping others materially and spiritually.
Although Eileen's battle with cancer began earlier, it became especially grave when she was diagnosed with mesothelioma in 2015. Nevertheless, she miraculously beat all the odds, allowing her to enjoy several new grandchildren and her first great-grandchild, and to touch countless souls.

I just learned of Dr. Eileen O'Connor's passing. She was one of my greatest mentors at SUNY Empire State and a wonderful, loving human being. You could see Jesus shine through all that she did and in her purpose here on earth. I am sending all my thanks to her loved ones for having had Eileen in my life and my prayers and support in your time of loss and grief. The Lord cover you and bless you. Irene

Darren,
I just saw Eileen's obituary. I am heartbroken to have missed the funeral. She was a special person to me and our last visit (probably in 2018-or in 2019) having lunch together in Albany was so special. She was still working, as was I, and we gave each other mutual support and good wishes.
I'm still working, which is my excuse for not checking the Mercy/CNR posts very often.
My sincere condolences.
If there are any memorial events planned, do contact me.
