Eileen T. O'Connor

Eileen T. O'Connor, 91, a native and life-long resident of South Boston, passed away on Friday, September 5, 2025 at Seal Rock Healthcare in Saco, Maine.

She was born in South Boston on October 24, 1933, a daughter of John J. and Mary T. (Moynihan) O'Connor. She received both her Elementary and High School education from area Catholic schools, and graduated class of 1951.

Eileen then entered the workforce in the banking industry, a field that wasn't common or very hospitable to women back in the 1950's and 1960's. Through her perseverance, personality and work ethic she rose to the position of Tax Accountant for Boston Safe Deposit And Trust, retiring in 1995 at the age of 62.

After the untimely death of her mother she graciously stayed in the home to be with her father until is passing at age 82.

In her retirement years Eileen became active as a volunteer with the Castle Island Association, a not-for-profit organization which directs its efforts toward the education, improvement, and maintenance of Fort Independence, a public space located on Castle Island in Boston Harbor. Eileen gave over 20 years to this worthy cause.

Eileen was fortunate to be able to travel extensively throughout her lifetime, with her trips to Ireland as her favorite. She was known for throwing elaborate St. Patrick's Day parties at her home, which happened to be conveniently located right along the St. Patrick's Day Parade route.

Eileen was a faithful communicant and generous supporter of Gates Of Heaven & St. Brigid Catholic Church in South Boston, and often could be seen attending the daily 7:00am Mass.

Of all things Eileen enjoyed and held dear, there was nothing she cherished more than spending time with family and friends. She will be sadly missed by many.

She was predeceased by her brother John F. O'Connor and his wife Betty O'Connor.

Eileen is survived by her two nieces, Carol O'Connor and Susan Bonansea (husband Richard); by one nephew; by two great-nephews; by one great-niece; and by six great, great-nephews and nieces.

A Graveside Service will be held at a later date in Blue Hill Cemetery.
