Eileen V. Smith, 90, formerly of Burke died Thursday, Oct. 11, 2012 at the St. Regis Nursing Home, Massena, NY. Born in Malone, NY on Aug. 4, 1922, she was the daughter of John and Helen (Nicklaus) Sullivan. She was married to Leroy L. Smith on January 5, 1942 in St. George's Church, Burke in a double wedding with William and June (McKinney) Fitzgerald. Mr. Smith predeceased her on Jan. 31, 2012. Mrs. Smith graduated from Franklin Academy, Malone. For many years, she aided her husband running the family farm. She was also employed at the Burke Adult Center for over 3 years. Mrs. Smith was a communicant of St. George's Church, Burke, the Catholic Daughters and an honorary member of the Altar and Rosary Society. She was also a member of the DAV Auxiliary. Mrs. Smith is survived by seven children and their spouses, Mildred and Lee Walfield of Northwood, NH, Robert and Sandra Smith of Milford, OH, Helen and Richard Widelski of Chateaugay, NY, Donald and Gale Smith of Broadalbin, NY, Madonna and Daniel Damour of Mooers, NY, Leland and Susan Smith of Littleton, CO, Anne and Craig Patterson of Cadyville, NY, 17 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren. Besides her husband, she was predeceased by her parents and three brothers, Milford, Raymond & Harold Sullivan. Calling hours will be held at the Chateaugay Funeral Home on Sunday, Oct. 14 from 4 to 7 pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 1 pm on Monday, Oct. 15 in St. George's Church, Burke with Rev. John Looby officiating. Burial will take place at St. George's Cemetery, Burke. Donations in her memory may be made to St. George's Church, Altar & Rosary Society or St. Regis Nursing Home Activity Fund.
