Elaine Bullis

Elaine Viola Bullis (Fuhrman), 95, died on April 13, 2025, at her home in Tucson AZ.

A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, September 27th, at 11:00 AM, at the Bethany Lutheran Church, 216 Charles St, Robinson, ND. The service will be live streamed for those who are unable to attend in person.

Burial will be held at the Bethany Lutheran Cemetery, Robinson, ND.

Elaine Viola Fuhrman, the oldest of 3 children, was born on March 5, 1930, in Robinson, ND, to William and Viola Fuhrman (Schultz).

Elaine was an excellent student who skipped a grade and earned the honor of being valedictorian of the Robinson High School Class of 1947. She also enjoyed playing basketball in high school on the girls team, but she suffered a serious knee injury which ended any thoughts in a sports career. Following high school graduation Elaine met and then married the love of her life Henry Justin "Bud" Bullis on May 9, 1948. The newlyweds moved onto a small farm six miles north of Robinson where they welcomed their children Kathleen Joy in 1949, followed by Michael Justin in 1952, and William Henry in 1954. The couple worked their farm until October of 1961 when they moved the family to Vallejo, California and started up and worked their termite and construction business together. Their business was successful and provided well for the family until their youngest child graduated high school in 1972, and the couple sold their business in Vallejo and move to Idaho. Once in Idaho the couple started up a small real estate company. In 1984, the couple moved to Fresno, California. Bud became semi-retired and managed an apartment complex and Elaine worked as an office manager for an architectural/construction firm.

In 1990, Bud’s health took a turn for the worst, and he entered a VA nursing home. Elaine visited him daily to care for him and to ensure he was receiving proper care at the facility. At the same time, she continued working her at office manager position.

On August 10, 1992, Bud passed away and is buried in the Bethany Lutheran Cemetery in Robinson, where Elaine’s remains will be buried alongside him.

After Bud’s death, Elaine continued working as office manager in Fresno for many years.

As she did throughout her life, she continued her active role in the Methodist Church. She enjoyed playing bridge with her lady friends, gardening, and spending time with her grandchildren, whenever possible.

In October of 2023, as her health and ability to live alone were faltering, she moved to Tucson and lived with Bill and Donna (Daughter in Law) until her death.

Elaine was a caring, kind and loving person. She devoted herself to supporting Bud in his businesses and health challenges. She was a thoughtful presence in the lives of her grandchildren, great grandchildren and nieces/nephews, remembering birthdays and other milestones.

Elaine is survived by her three children, Kathy, Michael and Bill; 3 grandchildren, Amy Argao, Erin Hawkins and David Bullis; 5 great grandchildren; sister in-law, Elsie Fuhrman; and 8 nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; sister-in-law, Muriel White; sister, Lucille (Fuhrman) Hetletved; brother, Donald Fuhrman; brother-in-law, Dale Hetletved; and nephew, Dwayne Hetletved.
