Ms. Elaine Bernice Cain was born on December 29, 1947 in Bennettsville,
South Carolina to the late (Lizzie) Inez Drayton and Joshua Townsend, Sr.
Affectionately known by family and friends as "Laine Cain" or "Elaine
Cain" she was a strong woman of character known for her elegant, oversized hats.
Elaine loved attending garage sales by herself or with anyone who was willing to
go with her all while wearing one of her many oversized hats.
Elaine grew up in Marlboro County and graduated from East Side High
School. She was the first African American to be hired at Roses Dime Store in
Bennettsville, South Carolina breaking racial barriers in Marlboro County. She
was a top sales Vice President in South Carolina for Mary Kay Cosmetics and was
rewarded by Mary Kay Cosmetics with a pink car and several other accolades.
Elaine was a devout Jehovah's Witness and a faithful servant of Jehovah
God.
Elaine was preceded in death by her former husband Carl T. Cain, Jr., her
parents Lizzie Inez Drayton and Joshua Townsend, Sr., her brother David Drayton,
Jr., her sister Octavia Annette Brunson and her grandson Jervais Wan Ya Cain.
Left to cherish her sweet memories are four daughters; Inez Ponton (Arthur),
Wanda Cain, Dr. Latasha Rogers (Michael) and Carlina Mitchell (Alan). Seven
grandchildren Kuree Sheard (Benjamin, III), Joshua Cain, Tiana Purvis, Logan
Wise, Antonio Treyveon Purvis, Ethan Wise and Chase Wise; one great granddaughter
Jade Wan Ya Cain; bonus grandson Braxton Javon Mitchell; three
sisters Mary McNeil, Marie Kelly (Adgie) and Mary Davis; one brother Joshua
Townsend, Jr. and a host of other nieces, nephew, cousins, relatives and friends.
In lieu of flowers please donate to the South Carolina Kidney Foundation on behalf of
Ms. Elaine Drayton Cain.
