Elaine Eagon Obituary

All that remember Elaine would say the following about her. She was a kind, good woman who loved everybody. She loved writing about her life, and her family and friends.

She loved volunteering. She loved taking care of her children when they were little and then her grandchildren and then her great grandchildren.

Elaine Eagon, who passed away on May 18, 2021 was born to Charles and Leona Huebner Manzke in Chicago, Illinois on June 27, 1928. Growing up during the Great Depression was challenging but strengthened her family and herself.

Elaine graduated from Waukegan Township High School in 1945. She was inducted into the National Honor Society and worked through high school to earn extra money. Subsequently she worked in professional jobs including as a paralegal for Attorney Paul C. Kilkelly.

Elaine met the love of her life Paul Eagon shortly after his return from World War II. They were married September 17, 1949 and celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary in 2009.

Elaine volunteered her whole life. This included roles with the Cub Scouts, Republican Women's Club, teaching and numerous other committees at First Methodist Church in Waukegan, the Waukegan Downtown Association, the Genessee Theatre, the Jack Benny Statue Committee, the Waukegan Historical Society, and many others. She and husband Paul were awarded the Waukegan Exchange Club's Golden Deeds Award in 2008.

She and husband Paul loved to travel to Europe and all over the United States.

Elaine was also a prolific writer including her well known Letters to the Editor of the Waukegan News Sun, the books she wrote on the family's history and publications in several magazines.

She is survived by her sons Douglas (Janey), Gregory, Jeffrey (Kathy), Philip; her grandchildren, Kyle (Jamie), Trevor, Paul-Thomas, Jeremy, Justin (Samantha), Joseph, James (Candice), Bryan and Andrew; and sixteen great grandchildren. Elaine was preceded in death by her darling husband Paul H Eagon, her father and mother, and her sisters Donna and Lila.

Services will be held at 10:30 AM on Tuesday May 25th, at First United Methodist Church, 128 N Martin Luther King Drive, Waukegan. Interment will follow at Mt. Olivet Memorial Park, 1436 N Kenosha Rd, Zion.

Visitation will be from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM Monday, May 24th at Peterson & Patch 408 N Sheridan Road, Waukegan.
