Elaine Hottel Obituary
Elaine was born on August 25, 1943 to Faust Fremont Day and Emma Groot Day in
Vienna, Virginia. She was baptized as one of Jehovah's Witnesses on July 24, 1954. She
graduated from James Madison High School in 1961 and received several honors including Best Typist and Outstanding Business Student. She was offered a scholarship to Strayer Business College but declined. She chose instead to volunteer as a full-time minister for the next 10 years, supporting herself in several office jobs and driving a school bus.
On October 21, 1972 Elaine married Joseph Clinton Hottel of Philomont, Virginia. Together
they ran a farming operation known as Egypt Farms. In 2000, her beloved Joe died. She continued to run the farm until 2007 when she had a stroke that severely limited her mobility. She remained positive and joyful and was able to resume her full-time ministry for 3 years during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Elaine is survived by her children, Hannah along with her husband Jason, Joseph, and John along with his wife Elizabeth, and her grandchildren Collin, Landon and Reagan as well as her sisters Janet Day Werner and Joyce Day Munson. She was predeceased by her husband Joseph Clinton Hottel and her brother Fremont Eugene Day.
She was most grateful to her parents for teaching their children about their precious faith and to Clyde DeBusk, one of Jehovah's Witnesses from Fairfax, Virginia for introducing them to the way of worship that they loved. She faithfully served her God for 71 years.
Services will be held at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses at 6706 Carpenter Road
in Frederick Maryland on November 2, 2024 at 3pm. In lieu of flowers, the family requests
donations be made to the Worldwide Work of Jehovah's Witnesses at
