Elaine Mitchell Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by LeCompte-Johnson-Taylor Funeral Home on Aug. 15, 2024.
Elaine R. (nee Barnes) Mitchell passed away peacefully Tuesday, August 13 at her home. A gathering of family and friends will be held Saturday, August 24, 2024, from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at Immanuel Baptist Church, Frankfort where she was a member.
A native of Franklin County and proud Bald Knobber, she was born July 2, 1935, to the late James W. and Vaunda Barnes and also preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, Robert "BZ" Mitchell and son Darin Mitchell.
Elaine is survived by three children, David Mitchell, Susan (Rob) Laurenson, Jennifer Harper; seven grandchildren, Rebecca Mitchell, Katie (Derrick) Clemons, Suzanna (Brandt) Miller, Ashley Harper, Robert (Mary) Laurenson, Brandon (LeAndra) Harper, Holden Mitchell; five great grandchildren, Jayce Clemons, Alexis Bowen, Avaya Bowen, Lauren Clemons and Jayden Edouard.
Elaine enjoyed a 35 year career with the Federal Highway Administration where she developed many lifelong friendships. As the Executive Secretary, she was adept at professional communication but also the office poet as she penned many an ode or limerick for birthdays and retirees. Upon her own retirement, she joined her husband "BZ" in the family business, Security Insurance Agency. They enjoyed each other's company as well as the people they served.
Always a loving caring person, Elaine taught Sunday school for many years to youth but found the most joy teaching her "girls" in the Ruth class senior women at Crestwood. She was an avid reader and music lover. Open minded and accepting of new ideas, she was a lifelong learner. Her life experience and unwavering faith were a source of inspiration for many.
Her Ashwood Place home surrounded her with much love and laughter, making her last years bright. Special thanks to her beloved caregiver, Nikki, and to the Bluegrass Care Navigators.
Memorial contributions can be made to Immanuel Baptist Church missions or the Alzheimer's Association.
