Elaine was born on August 28, 1947 in Calumet to Jacob and Eva (Keranen) Wanhala.
Elaine graduated from Calumet High School with a class of 1965. She attended Michigan Tech University graduating with a bachelor of science in medical technology.
She worked at Wayne County hospital for a few years before moving back to the Copper Country. She finished her working career at Portage Hospital in Hancock.
Elaine is preceded in death by her parents, sisters Lorraine, Marilyn, Patricia, Janice and brother Ronald.
She is survived by a brother, John Wanhala of Atlantic Mine and a brother-in-law Dave Syme of Georgia.
She was "Aunt Bird" to 10 nieces and nephews and many great nieces and nephews, who she loved as though they were her own children.
Funeral services will be held on Sunday December 10, 2023 at 1:00 PM in the Erickson Crowley Peterson Funeral Home in Calumet with Pastor Mark Halonen to officiate.
Friends may call at the Erickson Crowley Peterson Funeral Home on Sunday from 11:00 AM- 1:00 PM.
Burial will be in the Lake View Cemetery in Calumet.
