I was just looking through photos from 2015 when my family lived in Des Moines & saw El´s handwriting(his name & phone#) & instantly wanted to find him. I am sad to hear he has passed away, but so grateful for having met him. We often would take walks around the baseball field with out toddler and newborn. Mili (our toddler) loves horses and ran to El´s fence. He was outside and we chatted for awhile. I lived in that area bc of my service to the USN so I enjoyed his navy stories. My daughter grew to love running up to El´s place and she made herself comfortable and he didn´t seem to mind. I enjoyed every neighborly visit we had over there. His property was beautiful and he was dedicated to the upkeep. I cannot believe his age and yet he was so active and sharp. I hope him and his wife are reunited at last. To the family, I am sorry for your loss, how lucky you are to call him family. Such a good Man.

Dear family and friends of Elbert,
On behalf of the United States Submarine Veterans, we offer our sincere condolences at Elbert´s passing. Please know that you are in our thoughts and prayers. We are always saddened whenever a fellow "Bubblehead" departs on Eternal Patrol. He served with honor on the USS Tuna (SS-203) and USS Blackfin (SS-322).
To our "Brother-of-the-Phin" we say, "Sailor, rest your oar. We have the watch. Fair Winds and Following Seas." Thank you for your service to our country.
To the family... "may the Lord of peace himself give you peace at all times in every way. The Lord be with you." 2 Thessalonians 3:16 (ESV).

National Chaplain, USSVI.
