Eleanor Lee Baker died peacefully in Rockville, Maryland, on Nov. 17. She is survived by her daughter, Lisa Lopez; son, Chris Baker; sons-in-law William Lopez and Andrew Huddleston; grandchildren Kristen Carty, Karla Nagi, Jessica Hamilton and Ricky Baker Jr.; several great grandchildren, including Evelyn Nagi; other relatives; and friends. Her son, Ricky Baker, died in 2013.
Eleanor was born in Luray, Virginia, to Herman and Margaret Frye. Growing up, she was close to her siblings, Dolores Whitesell, who also survives her; and Barbara Moreland and Fred Frye, who preceded her in death. Throughout her life, Eleanor enjoyed reminiscing about her childhood in Luray and later in Suitland, Maryland.
Eleanor married her high school sweetheart, Richard W. Baker Jr., in 1960. She enjoyed being a homemaker and raising her children, especially during the years in which the family resided in Forestville, Maryland. Eleanor would later call these the happiest years of her life.
She was a devoted daughter and provided loving care for her mother at the end of her life. After Eleanor's divorce, she began a late-in-life career as a caregiver for the elderly, a job at which she excelled.
Eleanor loved talking on the phone, especially to her mother, sisters and children. She was a great cook and took pride in keeping a spotless home, something she learned from her mother. She took excellent care of her skin and was a stylish dresser. She also loved to shop and read.
Above all, Eleanor will be remembered as a wonderful mother, mother-in-law, grandmother and great grandmother. She will be deeply missed.
