Eleanor Mae Davis

 

Eleanor Mai Adams Davis entered this world on June 2, 1938, in Nashville, TN. The first child to James Andrew Adams and Katie Mail Brown Adams. She was preceded in death by her parents James and Katie Adams; her sisters Bettye Jean McDonald and Marsha Joe Ann Scales; her brothers James Adams Jr, Samuel Adams, and James Willis; also, her sons Robert Eugene Ostine and Jeffery Charles Ostine.

Eleanor was educated in Davidson County Public Schools and graduated from Cameron High School. She worked for Metro Public Schools in the cafeteria but had a desire for more. She enrolled in Draughon’s Business College and received her degree in Business Administration in 1970. She then began working for formally Commerce Union Bank now known as Bank of America until she retired.

Eleanor was raised in Christ Temple under Mother Lena Robinson. As a teenager she traveled to many states with Mother Robinson and would sing before the message was given. She later joined the Jefferson Street Missionary Baptist Church where the pastor was Reverend James Thomas. She was there many years until she moved her membership to Mt. Siani Primitive Baptist Church under the late Elder Washington Green where she was a member of the Usher’s Chorus.

Being married to a minister she was taught to follow her husband and when he was offered the position of becoming the Pastor of Noah’s Ark P.B. Church she moved her membership in support of him. After many years they both moved their membership to the Mt. Paran P.B, Church under the leadership of Elder Freeman H. Geter.

Ella Mai as she was called loved to sing, cook, travel and sleep. She loved watching her western shows and soap operas. She loved to play UNO but made up her own rules, of course. She enjoyed being a faithful member of the National Primitive Baptist Convention for many years where she served in the Finance Department, Women’s Congress, Minister’s Wives' and the Congress Choir.

She leaves to cherish memory, her devoted and loving husband of 51 years Dr. Elder A . Percy Davis, children: Constance(Jackie)Beasley, James Ostine, Carolyn(Roger) Scruggs, Yolanda Davis and foster daughter, Keturah Hereford; grandchildren; Ronald, Bridgette, Shanika, Aaron, DaWanda, Monique, Latoya, Lakeshia, Kamecka, Porscha; 25 great grandchildren; 12 great-great grandchildren;  sisters, Katherine(Ewell)Overton and Linda Sue(Floyd) Stone; Devoted nephews, Lamont Scales, Jerry Washington, and Henry Washington. Also, numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
