Eleanor M. Gates

ELEANOR M. GATES Eleanor M. Gates, 70, passed peacefully on Saturday, December 6, 2025, at Oakdale Skilled Nursing Center in West Boylston, after a long battle with cancer.    She is survived by her siblings and their spouses, Philip Gates & Virginia, Roberta Hastings & Michael, and Jeffrey Gates & Ursula; 6 nieces & nephews, 17 great-nieces & great-nephews whom she cherished, and many dear friends and neighbors who cared for her throughout her illness. Daughter of the late Raymond and Constance (Ruberti) Gates, Eleanor was raised and educated in Clinton and was a graduate of Clinton High School, Class of 1973. She was also a 1977 graduate of Bryant University in Rhode Island.  Eleanor enjoyed a 40-year career in the legal profession, having worked for many years as a paralegal for the Middlesex County District Attorney's Office, the Massachusetts State Police Attorney, and a number of prominent attorneys in Massachusetts, including the Speaker of the House.  Well respected in her field, Eleanor successfully owned and operated Gates Court Reporting Firm in Boston, collecting depositions for numerous law firms, before assignment as an official Court Reporter in Massachusetts Superior Court, working throughout the Commonwealth, until retiring.  She held numerous professional memberships and affiliations and was a friend of the Sterling Senior Center.  Among her many hobbies, Eleanor loved to travel, cook, and was a skilled quilter and genealogist.    Calling hours will be held on Saturday, December 13, 2025, from 9:30 AM until 11 AM at the Philbin-Comeau Funeral Home, 176 Water St., Clinton, with a funeral service immediately following at 11 AM in the funeral home and burial in Woodlawn Cemetery, Clinton.
