Eleanor Strom Obituary

Strom, Eleanor Klunder
10/22/1923 - 3/18/2024
Belmont
Eleanor Klunder Strom, of Belmont, MI, age 100, passed away peacefully on Mon., March 18, 2024.
Eleanor was born and raised in Grand Rapids, the fifth of seven children. She attended Central High School, where, after a quick wink of his eye, she met the love of her life, Carl Strom. Together they weathered the many challenges of military life, as Carl fought in Europe during the war. Eleanor enjoyed her time as a secretary for several businesses in Grand Rapids, including for The World Affairs Council. This sparked a keen interest in world travel, and later, Carl and Eleanor started a travel business, enjoying memorable trips throughout the world, including several military reunion trips. Eleanor's most well-known talents were sewing, embroidery, and knitting- always tied to her generous nature. So many people were gifted throughout the years with her creative projects. There are many blankets, tiny knitted sweaters, and other creations out there, specifically made for the people she cared about. You were lucky to receive an "Origin-Ellie." The hours and thought she put into her projects brought her great joy. Eleanor's spirited love of life, kindness, and resilience inspired all who met her. Her beautiful smile was contagious, and she loved family, immediate and extended, dearly, along with friends, near and far. People always received a warm welcome when they visited Carl and Ellie on Little Myers Lake, their home for 48 years. Her family treasures many fond memories of swimming, cooking out, and playing games at the lake. She will be dearly missed.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Jacob and Lena Klunder, six brothers and sisters, several brothers and sisters in law, son in law, Leonard Dryer, and her cherished husband of 75 years, Carl Strom. She is survived by her daughters, Sandra Dryer and Terrie (Jeff) Adcock, grandchildren, Mark (Gary) Dryer, Kimberly (David) Tikkanen, Noelle (Pat) Gillies, Laura (Dan) Cosgrove, and Brian (Gem) Obermiller; five great grandchildren, and 3 great, great grandchildren; sister in-law, Patricia Murphy, and many nieces and nephews.
A private burial is planned, with a celebration of life at a later date. The family extends sincere thanks to the staff at Boulder Creek Assisted Living and also Faith Hospice. Those wishing to offer expressions of sympathy are encouraged to make a memorial contribution to The Grand Rapids Home for Veterans, 3000 Monroe Ave NE, Grand Rapids, MI 49505.

Arlene and I want to express our deepest condolences. Eleanor and Carl were our neighbors the 12 years that I served the Courtland Oakfield United Methodist Church. We have many fond memories of our friendship with them both. They were so gracious and loving and accepting of our son and daughter and of us. They allowed us to swim and fish on the dock in front of their ! When Carl began to fail she faithfully took care of him. What a remarkable woman. Our family has been blessed by her in so many ways! Thank you Lord for sharing Eleanor with us!!!!

So many wonderful memories we (Husband Marc (Deceased) and I) have with our dear friend Elli, as we so fondly called her. She and Carl were a big part of our lives as well as Terri and Sandy. She loved to sing with us ( Where Have All The Flowers Gone) Our heartfelt sympathies go out to all her beautiful family.
