Eleanor “Sue” Woodson, 81, of Amarillo, Texas, passed away on March 12, 2026.
The service will be held at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, April 1, 2026, at Boxwell Brothers Ivy Chapel. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2800 Paramount Blvd.
Sue was born in Dallas, Texas, on December 10, 1944, to William Lee Powell and Ollie Myrle (Bains) Powell Bradshaw. She graduated from Kopperl High School in 1962 and earned a bachelor's degree in biology and a master’s degree in education from Texas Woman’s University. She was a member of KopperlMethodist Church.
Sue married Richard Woodson on November 20, 1972, in Irving, TX.
She was a teacher in Grand Prairie for three years, then became a counselor at Travis Junior High for a year and subsequently worked as a counselor at Amarillo High School until her retirement.
Sue loved her dogs; they were her babies. She also loved flowers, gardening, and weekly lunches with two different groups of friends. She belonged to a quilting group. More than anything, she loved her family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, William Lee Powell and Ollie Myrle (Bains) Powell Bradshaw; stepdad, John Bradshaw; sister, Kathleen “Kathy” Baugh; brother, George “Lee” Powell; nephew, Michael Baugh; niece, Debbie Carter; brothers-in-law, Bill Baugh and Rex Jones; and her dogs, Powder Puff, Susie, Taffy, Karo, Sally, Ollie, Bailey, and Katie.
Sue is survived by her husband, Richard Woodson, and her dog, Chewie. She also is survived by her sister, Carolyn Garner; her nieces, Cindy Myers and Mike and their children, Mary O’Donnell and husband Sean and daughter Caroline, and Robert Myers and his wife Tristan, and Ashley Carter and her daughter Juniper Carter and Jennifer Petri and husband Michael and children, Alyssa, Austen, and Abby, and five grandchildren; her nephews, Lee Alexander Powell and wife Michelle, and Gary Powell and wife Jeannette and their daughter, Harper; her sisters-in-law, Linda Burrows, and Irene Jones and her sons, Phillip Russell Jones and Rebecca and children, Pierce and Brice, and Richard Jeffery Jones and his children, Reed and Jett.
