Eleanore Newton Jones Obituary
Eleanore Newton Jones passed away at age 92 in San Marino, California. She was born in Everett, Washington to Clifford and Esther Newton on September 6, 1933. Her beloved grandfather, Olaf Carlson, was a pioneer in the lumber and shingle industry and founded mills in Seattle and Everett Washington. She was forever grateful to be a part of this large and loving Swedish family.
Ellie, as she was affectionately known, attended local schools and was a graduate of the University of Washington where she was affiliated with Gamma Phi Beta sorority. She remained close to friends from childhood, high school, college, and gathered many more along her life's journey.
Following graduation, she taught school in Seattle before moving to Pasadena where she met her beloved husband, Warren Jones. They were married in 1961 and settled in Pasadena, California where Warren continued his lifetime practice of medicine and Ellie taught school.
1965 was a joyous year with the birth of their son, Eric. He graduated from Flintridge Preparatory School and joined them in annual Thanksgiving celebrations in Hawaii. Their Palm Desert condo was a frequent destination as well, and summers were often spent at their Whidbey Island, Washington beach house.
As a member of the San Marino League, Ellie was a docent at the Huntington Library, a group supporting the arts, botanical gardens, and the Art Center of Design. She was also a member of Luminaires, a support group of the Doheny Eye Institute and was a nine-year board member of the Pasadena Symphony Orchestra. In addition, she was president of the Assistance League.
Throughout her remarkable life, Ellie played myriad roles, and touched countless lives. She was a devoted wife, loving mother, a cherished daughter, a caring sister, a doting aunt, and friend to many. Her warmth and kindness illuminated the lives of those blessed to know her. She will be missed deeply and remembered always for her kindness, thoughtfulness, and generosity.
In accordance with Ellie's wishes, a private family burial will be held at the San Gabriel Cemetery where she will lie at rest next to her beloved husband of 45 years. She is predeceased by her cherished son Eric, who lovingly supported her during his final years. She is survived by her two stepdaughters, Christina Gates and Lisa Thompson, as well as extended family, nieces, nephews including Craig Minor and Allison Minor.
In this time of mourning, may we discover comfort in the memories we shared with Ellie and the impact she left on our lives. Let her warmth resonate in our hearts, a timeless reminder to find joy in life's most precious moments.
