Elena “Nonnie” Menditto Beaugez 95 years old, lived in Ocean Springs, passed on Thursday, July 3rd, 2025.
Elena was born January 8, 1930, in Cassino, Italy to Luigi Menditto and Rocca (Rosina) Panaccione both of Cassino.
She worked for 27 years at St. Alphonsus Catholic Elementary School alongside her best friend Wanda Fremin. Elena was a masterful embroidery artist who enjoyed creating beautiful pieces long into her later years. She created meals for her friends and family that not only filled the stomach but warmed the heart. She enjoyed a good yard sale and finding treasures at the local thrift store. Elena kept strong ties to her Italian heritage, surrounding herself with a tight knit group of Italian girlfriends who had also settled in Ocean Springs. Holidays would find her recreating family recipes from home alongside her sister Vincenza. She could often be found holding animated phone conversations in her lovely Italian lilt. Her granddaughter Jessica was a shining light in her life, she cared for Elena with the same selflessness that Elena had shown throughout her own life.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her siblings and her husband Oswald Paul Beaugez.
Elena is survived by her sons, Paul Beaugez (spouse Martha Brown) and Guy Beaugez; her granddaughter, Jessica Beaugez West (spouse Martin West); great-granddaughter, Grace Johnson; and former daughter-in-law, Patti Carter; as well as a loving group of nieces and nephews.
Services will be held at Bradford-O’Keefe Funeral Home on Porter Avenue in Ocean Springs on Thursday, July 10th at 11:00 am. Visitation for friends at 10:00 am. Graveside service to follow at Evergreen Cemetery, Ocean Springs. There will be a reception afterwards at St. John’s Episcopal Church in Ocean Springs in the Parish Hall.
The family would like to thank the nursing staff at Ocean Springs Hospital, specifically Kami in SICU as well as Mike and Christi for outstanding care to Elena and the family.
In lieu of flowers feel free to make a donation to the Cabrini Mission Foundation Donate | Cabrini Mission Foundation, this organization was founded by St. Francis Xavier Cabrini who founded the order of the Missionary Sisters of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, the order who ran the convent near Naples, Italy where Elena and Vincenza lived and worked as young girls.
