On July 30, 1938, in Florence, AL, Elethus Vaughn was born to Ernest and Eliza Vaughn. He departed this life on February 11, 2024, at Elevate Care Rehabilitation Center in Riverwoods, IL. One of nine children, he attended Burrell Slater High School in Florence, Alabama where he met and later married his childhood sweetheart, Sherry Reeder. Elethus served in the Air Force as a lineman for four years. After his honorable discharge, he and Sherry were married in 1961. They resided in Waukegan, IL where four children were born to them. Dejuana and Anthony Small of Odenton, MD; Victor Vaughn, Waukegan, IL; Robert and Kellie Vaughn, Gurnee, IL; and Michele Vaughn, DeKalb, IL.
Elethus was a very industrious man who worked full-time at the North Chicago Post Office and operated his own Barbershop (V&R) for over thirty years. He was one of the oldest barbers in the Waukegan, North Chicago, and Zion area. He was a very devoted son-in-law to Ruby Reeder. He was a caregiver for his sister (Mattie Blackburn) until his disablement. He also enjoyed golfing, bowling, hunting, summer trips to Alabama, and school events to support his kids and grandkids.
He was baptized in August 1949 at Eleven Grove Baptist Church in Florence, AL by Rev. Thompson and united with Gideon by the Christian Experience in 1960. His service at Gideon included Trustee and Usher throughout his membership. He leaves his wife; four adult children, six granddaughters, Victoria, Shayna, Jasmine, Briena, Jada, and Janae; Two grandsons, Darius and Jaylen; one great grandson, Napoleon; three brothers, Louis Vaughn, James Vaughn, and Robert Vaughn; one sister, Mattie Vaughn and several nephews and nieces. Sherry his wife of 61 years who loved him to the end of his earthly journey and hopes to see him again in the place that God has prepared for those who love him.
Friends and family will meet for visitation on Monday, February 19, 2024 from 12PM-1PM at Warren Funeral Home, 1475 N. Cemetery Road, Gurnee, IL. He will be deeply missed by all who know and love him.
