Elfrieda Persic Obituary

Elfrieda "Freddie" Marie Persic

June 23, 1936 - November 26, 2025

State College, Pennsylvania - Elfrieda Marie Persic passed away peacefully in her home holding the hand of her beloved husband of 64 years, Dr. Louis Persic. Elfrieda, or Freddie as everyone called her, is survived by her husband Dr. Louis Persic, her 6 children, Marina Persic of Alpharetta, Georgia; Julia and her husband Todd Erdley of State College; Angela and her husband Greg Fritton of Fuquay Varina, North Carolina; Louis Persic and his husband Andy Cassel of Washington, DC; Nicole Semon of Warrenton, Virginia; Eric and his wife Aimee Persic of Wilmington, North Carolina; 11 Grandchildren and 7 Great Grandchildren. Freddie was proceeded in death by her parents Alfred and Louise Bauer, and 3 siblings, Rudy, Karl, and Helen.

Freddie, the youngest daughter of German immigrants Alfred and Louise Bauer, attended the prestigious All Girls High in Philadelphia where she developed a love of music that continued throughout her life. She attended Penn State University, studied music education, and after graduation. began teaching music in Delanco, New Jersey. There she met and married her husband Lou. She raised 6 children including 4 while also helping to put Lou through medical school. She made motherhood her full time job, but Freddie always found time to give back to her community. As a member of the Catholic Church, she served as the choir director at four churches including Queen of the World Parish in St. Mary's and the folk choir at Our Lady of Victory in State College. She was also a founding member and President of the State College Area High School Music Boosters. There was always music in her home and Freddie passed her love of music down to all her children.

From the early days of her marriage to Lou and throughout his medical career, Freddie was a steadfast and devoted supporter of his endeavors. She served as President of both the Center County Chapter of the Medical Society Alliance and the Pennsylvania Medical Society Alliance. She and Lou also dedicated their time as co-chairs of two Hospital Charity Balls and several Antique Shows.

Freddie became active in local politics and served two terms on the College Township Town Council and the Centre Region Planning Commission. But Freddie was most proud of the charitable work that she and Lou did in supporting others and developing a Mission Parish in Maggoty, Jamaica that lead to the building of a school and medical center on the parish grounds to support the parish community.

Freddie will be truly missed by her family and many friends who loved her, an unassuming woman who quietly made a difference in the lives of those she touched.

Dr. Persic and Family,

We met through Joan and Bill Fenton, perhaps at one of their tailgates before a Penn State game. I have always admired the musical talents of your family.

My husband and I send our condolences. Enjoy the many memories of time spent with your wonderful wife, children, and their families.

My daughter Susan was in Angela's class in high school.
