Elfriede "Elfie" Wolfel Mowell, age 85, passed away peacefully on Friday, October 31, 2025, at the Margaret Z. Dozier Hospice House. Her resilience was second to none. Strong-willed, with a unique sense of humor and a fiercely loyal heart, Elfie was a devoted friend to many.
Elfie was born on December 15, 1939, in Bayreuth, Germany. At the age of eighteen, she courageously moved to the United States in search of a fresh start. She made her home in Tallahassee, Florida, where she spent much of her life. Elfie devoted twenty-five years to the Leon County Court System, serving as an administrative clerk in the felony division.
She will be remembered for her kindness, generosity, and youthful spirit. Elfie embraced her German heritage through her crafts and cooking, and she found great joy in the outdoors. At home, she could most often be found in her garden-she truly had the greenest of thumbs.
Elfie is survived by her daughter, Annette Jilek, and her grandsons, Michael Jilek and Martin Jilek. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Warren Dick Mowell, her parents, Friedrich and Elisabeth Wolfel, and her siblings, Alfred Reinecke, Paul Reinecke, Marianne Gebhard, and Emma Queissner. May they be dancing together in heaven after a fine meal of schweinebraten mit Klöße.
A celebration of life will be held on Sunday, November 23, 2025, at 2:00 p.m. at Bevis Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Big Bend Hospice in Elfie's memory. The family wishes to thank all of Elfie's friends and loved ones for their care and support.
"Möge ihr Licht weiterhin als der hellste Stern am Nachthimmel leuchten."
