Mary Elizabeth “Lib” Hinson Bandy, 91, of Colonial Heights, VA, passed away on Saturday, November 8, 2025. Born in Tennessee on October 11, 1934, she was the daughter of the late Thomas Edward Hinson and Leila Hinson Boyd. She was also preceded in death by her beloved husband of 72 years, William Oliver “BB” Bandy; stepfather, Robert Love Boyd; and her infant son, James Edward Bandy.
She is survived by her sisters, Lois Ann Guschke (Mike) and Nancy Owen (Roy); brother-in-law, Jimmy Bandy (Bonnie); children, Kathy Bandy Magnusson (Mike), Tom Bandy (Holly), and Becky Bandy Clements (Chass); grandchildren, Jack Williams III (Meghan), Alic Bandy (Brittany), Nick Bandy (Heather), Eric Williams (Rebekah), Laura Williams Min (David), Elizabeth Magnusson Meyers (Kurt), TJ Bandy, and Johnny Bandy; pseudo grandchildren, Jane Guschke Varakin (Alex), Sarah Guschke Knapp (Ryan), and Emily Guschke Winter (Matt); great grandchildren, Dani Williams, Lennon Williams, Nora Bandy, Colten Bandy, Elise Bandy, Connor Bandy, Cari Jo Williams, Philipp Meyers, Oliver Williams, Harper Meyers, Corbin Bandy, Luke Bandy, and Emma Meyers; and numerous nieces, nephews, and special friends.
Elizabeth was a current member and choir singer for First Baptist Church in Richmond, VA, and was a former member of Mount Pleasant Baptist Church in Colonial Heights, VA, where she was a Charter Member. She worked for St. Michael’s Episcopal Church as a Kindergarten Teacher and Lakeview Elementary School as a fifth-grade teacher. She gave all to her vocations as a teacher, homemaker, and especially as a mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Her genuine love for people, especially those little ones, extended well beyond family to many that she loved and treated as her own.
A funeral service will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Friday, November 14, 2025, at Mount Pleasant Baptist Church, 3110 Greenwood Avenue, Colonial Heights, VA 23834. Entombment will follow in Southlawn Memorial Park, S Prince George, VA. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, November 13, 2025, at the Colonial Heights Chapel of the E. Alvin Small Funeral Homes, 2033 Boulevard, Colonial Heights, VA 23834.
