Elizabeth Boyd Obituary

Elizabeth A. Boyd

October 27, 1953 - May 7, 2025

Elizabeth "Liz" Boyd, born in Portage, WI, passed away on May 7, 2025, following a brief illness. She was 71 years old. Liz was the cherished daughter of Joy N. Schernecker and Louis F. Genter. Liz attended Blessed Sacrament grade school, Edgewood High School, and the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse. She spent most of her adulthood in Madison and Lake Delton, where she enjoyed the outdoors.

Throughout her career, Liz was the ultimate organizer and facilitator. She worked at WKOW-TV and dedicated over 20 years to the Wisconsin Broadcasters Association. Liz had a special passion for basketball events, serving as a scorekeeper at UW Madison basketball games and assisting with scheduling referees at youth basketball tournaments.

With an outgoing, larger-than-life personality, Liz made friends wherever she went. She had an exceptional talent for remembering everyone's names, including their spouses and children, their hobbies and interests, and their connections. Always up-to-date with current events, Liz loved a good debate. She loved her chocolate Bismarck donuts from "Joe's" Regent Street Food Market. A devoted dog lover, Liz especially treasured her canine companions Elijah, Taia, and Kissie.

"Auntie Liz" is survived by her husband, Tommie Boyd; her siblings Fran Genter (Marianne), Kelly Genter (Angie), Kent Genter (Jill) and Christine Orfan (Kevin), and numerous nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews, and friends' children whom she loved as her own, including Jason, Chelsea, and Adrian.

Liz and I became friends when I came to Edgewood High School as a senior.

It continued years beyond. She was a good soul with a big heart.

Gone too soon. She will be missed.

Rest in peace

Liz was a friend from high school - a long time ago but the memories still clear. We all remember where we were when man first walked on the moon-well a few of us were in Liz´s living room heading out for teenage fun when her mom had us stay and watch history being made with her. That memory has never left me. We had just reconnected last year. And I loved it. Too young to be gone-RIP Liz

Liz, sweet and fiery Lizzy,
You will always have a special place in my heart and in the people who touched me in my career. From bantering about WIAA Boys Basketball to your fun-filled jabs at me when we saw each other. You had a great way of poking fun, kidding around and even tossing out a clever insult with me. I knew it was your way of saying hi, and my way of saying that I loved you and you made those meetings and times around the WBA or basketball at the Kohl Center, personal for me. Prayers for your new life and you will always be someone fondly remembered.

I was shocked to see Liz's obit this morning. I had just visited her at the nursing home on Easter and I so hoped she would get better. I will miss her a lot. I am sad for Tommie as they were so close and even tho they were both suffering from illness, they were together. Liz was a sweet lady and not afraid to share her opinions and why we got along so well.

I went to grade school with Liz and we became best friends. When she hung out at my house she would always drink our Tang, because her mother, Joy, wouldn't buy it for her. We continued our friendship through our high school years and we added a few more friends to our group and we called ourselves "FTroop". We lost touch over the years, but FTroop finally got together in 2023 because we all turned 70 years old that year. Liz bought us all shirts and this picture is from the weekend we got together. Liz, I will miss you dearly. We had a lot of good laughs together and I have so much peace knowing your with our Lord and I cant wait to see you again. Give a hug to my mom and dad and I hope you are enjoying some Tang up there!

I went to high school with Chelsea. Liz was at every single one of our high school basketball games. I remember her fondly and always with a smile on her face. She was our number 1 fan for sure!
