In memory of
Jay (Dr. Jay) Narayan, PhD
September 17, 2017
I cherish her loving heart. She was very special in my life and will always thank her for the kind and caring attitude. My young life began in USA when I arrived in California on February 14, 1957 from Fiji Islands. I worked for Dr. Bill and Betty Stiles on a regular basis while attending an adult high school in Berkley. I learned the value of life from these two loving couple, while I struggle to earn a living and make my future. Alexandr, my wife and I are proud parents of our two daughters, Beverley Narayan, Esq. and Tara Narayan Peyrache, CMO for True Religion. Sasha, our elder granddaughter graduated for UC Berkley and is now in Medical School, while our middle granddaughter graduated from Citadel college and is now employed by Federal government. Miss Liou our youngest one is starting middle school. All doing well. Thanks to Dr. Bill and Betty Stiles for showing me the way.

We were saddened to learn of Betty's passing earlier this month. We had the good fortune to meet her after she married Dave. Dave was a long time friend and advisor to our family.
We visited her and Dave on a number of occasions at their home in Meadow Vista when we were in California. She was a most charming hostess. It was always obvious to us that she was a most knowledgeable and accomplished lady.

On behalf of my family and my Nigerian friends,Tunji, Seyi, Tayo and Bola (RIP), we express our condolence to the family and may Betty's soul rest in eternal piece. As foreign students, we lived with Judge Calfee in Richmond in the mid-70s. At their invitation, we had the pleasure of spending a weekend with Betty and Judge Calfee at their retreat in April 1995. Our visit with them was very memorable as Bola passed on a few months afterwards. Betty welcomed and hosted us and our wives and little children with warmth and grace. Reading her accomplishments, thanks to God for Betty's time in this world.

It's hard to know where to begin. I will just say that I loved Aunt Betty ever since I first met her back in the 1950's when I was a wee lad. And I met and began a long, loving friendship with my cousins Annie and Helen. She was more than generous to me my entire life. I will treasure the times that I had with her, especially back on Hancock Way in El Cerrito. The rest I will save for letters and emails to my cousins. Love you all, Geoff.

I have such fond memories of visiting Betty and Dave in Meadowvista. Dave would bbq steaks and Betty wouldn't let Annie and me in the kitchen to help. She preferred doing it herself, even at 96! She was an extraordinary woman who led an extraordinary life. I treasure my memories of visiting her over the last 20 years.
