Elizabeth H. DeMartin

Elizabeth (Liz) Hannay DeMartin, 90, went home to be with our Lord March 13,2025. She is predeceased by her husband, Warren Allen DeMartin, her daughter Laura Louise DeMartin and many loved ones.
Liz began her earthly life in Albany, NY and ended it covered in the prayers of family and friends, in the caring hands of Complete Care Fox Hill staff. Her family is so grateful.
Liz worked many jobs: picking tobacco, switchboard operator, customer service for Southern New England Telephone Co., Manchester Bus Co., and the State of CT in both Vocational Rehab and the Labor Dept. She gave of herself in every experience and encouraged everyone she worked with. She lived all her married life in Bolton, a town she loved and was supported by during the hardest time of her life. Liz and her family worshiped at the Bolton United Methodist Church for many years and at the Presbyterian Church of Coventry for the last twenty years, where, for a brief time she served as Church Secretary.
Liz found much purpose and pleasure expressing her love for others and God through her knitting and gardening. Liz was an avid reader from the moment she learned to read until she could no longer see the words on a page. She enjoyed all books but truly biographies and memoirs for they fulfilled her sense of adventure. Hearing younger generations reading thrilled her heart. Her legacy is one of service and love. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Dee and Bill Volkert, her grandchildren, Lauri Volkert, Mary and Brian Wilson, great grandchildren Brooke and Liam Wilson. She is also survived by loving nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, loving friends and care givers who have become more like family over the last five years.
Calling Hours will be held on Wednesday, March 19th from 5pm till 7pm at Manchester Funeral Home located at 142 East Center Street, Manchester CT. A Church Service will take place at Presbyterian Church of Coventry, located at 55 Trowbridge Road, Coventry CT on Thursday, March 20th at 10am followed by burial at Quarryville Cemetery in Bolton, CT. Those who have a sweater made by Liz are encouraged to come wrapped in her love. In lieu flowers the family ask that you share a book with a child, extend grace and kindness to your neighbor in Liz's memory.
