Michael. She was the best Lead Director I ever had. She was firm and straightforward with her expectations which I worked hard to accomplish. Our time together at NU led to a successful resolution of Milstone as well as huge financial issue in. New Hampshire. Her steady leadership of our Board made my life so mush more enjoyable and successful. I thought of her as my Maggie Thatcher in finding answers and in her strength when dealing with other Board Trustees. God rest her soul and I hope all is well with you. Mike Morris

My profound condolences to Liz's family and her countless friends and colleagues who loved and admired her. As her Mount Holyoke College "Big Sister", I had the joy and privilege of knowing and deeply caring for an extraordinary human being who truly made a difference in our world.
God speed, my dearest Liz. "Muffie"

As a fellow history major at Mt. Holyoke I shared classes with Liz. She outshone everyone in the classroom and we were thrilled when she became president of MHC. Live on, Liz!

Feeling sad about passing of President Kennan (Liz).
I had a Freshman Tutorial with Michael Burns and vaguely remember going to their house.
Liz was so cool!!!!! What a great smile! Loved seeing her ride around campus. And she was really interested in what students had to say. I remember sitting in Academic Policy Committee meetings chaired by her and she always called on me and the other student rep to speak. She sought out our thoughts. She also asked me to come to her office a few times after those APC meetings and just chatted with me to get a sense of my take on student life on campus. It´s a bit hazy but I think the whole Equity Institute Workshops on Multicultural Organisational Development (anyone remember those?) for the entire college including Faculty and Staff, in addition to students, were decided in those APC meetings. To address all the axes of privilege and discrimination and all the -isms ....Liz steered the college through all of that, getting the creaky administration of MHC to accept those workshops, and showing the college was responsive to students concerns\needs\demands. I may be wrong but i think Liz made those Equity Institute workshops compulsory for everyone on campus.
Liz with her huge glasses striding around campus sometimes in riding britches and sometimes in those tweed skirts.
She also lent my mother and I her black limousine during the summer of 1987 when I had fallen ill and the hospital thought I had a rare disease and might die and therefore had to be deported. Liz personally made sure all the arrangements had been made for my Mom´s needs and comfort, and then the limo came to Holyoke Hospital and took my Mom and I all the way to Newark NJ. I was lying down on the seat with my head in my Mom´s lap. The limo drove right onto the tarmac and left only after I was transferred into the plane and lying down. We didn´t have to deal with tickets or anything; it was all done for us. They had received strict instructions from Liz. I´ve never forgotten that.
We always referred to her as Liz, but when speaking with her, I always called her "President Kennan". She was a towering presence, serious yet really kind, assuring, & really there.
Thinking of you, Prof Burns. Sending love from India.
God speed, Liz. Gallop on into the sun!
