Elizabeth Lear Obituary

Published by D.S. Temrowski & Sons Funeral Home on Jul. 11, 2016.
Elizabeth Patricia Lear, age 91, died Monday, July 11, 2016 at the American House Assisted Living in Sterling Heights, Michigan. Elizabeth was born September 24, 1924 in Detroit, daughter of the late George Calvet and the late Julia (nee: Cygan) Calvet. Elizabeth was raised in Detroit and graduated from St. Rose of Lima Catholic School on Detroit's lower east side. Following her schooling, Elizabeth would eventually meet the love of her life, Alfred Lear and the couple would settle on the northeast side of Detroit where they created a new home and raised their family. Elizabeth was always devoted to her Catholic faith. As a young mother, she continued to nurture her children in the faith as well while attending St. Raymond's Catholic Church. Throughout her life, Elizabeth worked for over 8 years as a switchboard operator at Holy Cross Hospital in Detroit. She later worked as a caregiver for one of the nuns at Holy Cross Hospital during her last years. Elizabeth and her husband enjoyed traveling during their life together. Following retirement, she and Alfred moved to Spring Hill, Florida and continued to travel visiting their children and grandchildren. Quiet enjoyments for Elizabeth were attending church, singing around the house while listening to Mario Lanza, and watching the old Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers movies. Following the death of her husband, Elizabeth moved back to Michigan in 2002 where she became a devoted member of the St. Blase Catholic Community. Elizabeth enjoyed her time back in Michigan, being back home amidst her roots and extended family members,...yet she always wished her children and grandchildren could have lived closer. She will forever be missed as a loving woman devoted to her family and faith. Elizabeth was the beloved wife of the late Alfred Lear, and the dearest mother of Patricia (Jerry) Malec, Mary Johnson, Al (Cynthia) Lear, and Joseph (Alice) Lear. Loving grandmother of Jason (Meredith) Malec, Danny (Alys) Malec, Ryan (Cathy) Malec, Andrew (Ashley) Malec, Elizabeth (Mike) Vergon, Julia Johnson, Michael Johnson, A.J. (Kathleen) Lear, Leann Lear, Sheree (Ronald) van der Bergh, and Joseph (Holly) Lear. Elizabeth is also survived by her sister Anna Chaplow, and 14 Great-grandchildren. Mrs. Lear was predeceased by her 5 siblings. Visitation for Mrs. Lear will be held Thursday, July 14th from 3-9pm, with a 7pm Scripture Service, at the D.S. Temrowski & Sons Funeral Home, 30009 Hoover Road at Common (12 1/2 Mile) in Warren. Her Mass of the Christian Burial will be held Friday, 10:30am at St. Blasé Catholic Church in Sterling Heights. Memorial donations are appreciated to the I.H.M. Sisters of Monroe, Michigan, 610 West Elm Ave. Monroe, MI 48162, www.IHMsisters.org. Please share memories of Elizabeth at her memory book above.

Elizabeth's mother and my grandmother, Cunegunda Lech, were cousins. My mother visited the Calvet family often. Elizabeth and her sisters sang at my wedding mass at St. Florian Catholic Church. I remember visiting with the cousins at Aunt Helen's or Aunt Shirley's houses. What a fun group of relatives. Sorry I didn't hear about the funeral because I would have attended and made a connection with Elizabeth's children. My condolences.

Dear Friends, my parents, both have passed on. Eddie and Midge McGrath from Spring Hill

Elizabeth knew my folks, Eddie and Midge McGrath, in Spring Hill, FL. She and her husband would play cards and watch football with them. When she moved back from Florida she showed us a knit Irish Doll that my Mom gave her.

They went to the same church St. Theresa's.

I loved teasing Mrs Lear almost as much as I do Patty.
Our son Timothy told me today how much he loved to hear her laugh.
