Elizabeth (Liz) Ann Leigh (Burkindine), 66, of Selbyville, DE passed away on 7 November 2025 at 5:14 PM with her family by her side at the Christiana Care Hospital in Newark, DE.
Born in Dundalk MD, she spent many years in Baltimore before moving to Delaware to enjoy her retirement. She was born on January 27, 1959. She was a graduate of Patapsco High School in 1978. She worked for the Baltimore District Corps of Engineers for over 29 years. She was a loving, caring person, always reaching out to take care of family and all of the many friends she had secured. She truly treasured the last 10 plus years in the Fenwick Island area.
Liz was a volunteer at several organizations to include: the Delmarva Blood Bank, several days a month; Toys for Tots, 3 months each year as a driver; the Read Aloud Program at the Selbyville Day Care Center; the Wounded Warrior Program, Operation Seas the Day for one week each year in Bethany and the Women's Club of Keenwick that supported numerous charities.
Liz is survived by Bill, her loving husband of 21 years; her three children, Donald, his partner Jessica; Jason and his wife Alissa; and Kristin and her husband Brandon. She cherished her eleven grandchildren; Thomas, Donald, Sophie, Madelyn, Lucas, Wyatt, Theodore (Teddy), Bennett, Owen, Presley and Remie. She is also survived by her mother Rosemarie Burkinden; two brothers Charles Burkindine and Richard Burkindine. Along with many cousins, nephews, nieces and friends. She was proceeded in death by her father, Charles (Buck) Burkindine and her beloved son Matthew Davis.
Liz will be remembered for her real zest for life, her beautiful smile and resonating laughter; her giving loving nature she had on display all of the time. She was always taking food to her friends to help when needed. Along with the tremendous pride she carried for her family. Liz truly treasured her family and friends; the closeness they shared throughout her life and the many good times they enjoyed together.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to Operation Seas the Day at PO Box 811, Bethany Beach, DE 19930.
A celebration of Life is planned for January 10, 2026 from 1:00pm-4:00pm at the Ocean City Elks Lodge, 13708 Sinepuxent Ave, Ocean City MD.
